Well, thank you for the info. I'm sure if you hadn't furnished it, Gpanda would have gladly <s>made something up</s>..come up with some explanation for us. And as long as your only sensory experience with the handicapped toilet was hearing it, I'll take your word that you had an enjoyable flight.

While your report gives good details, it's the commentary that keeps me coming back for more.

Kathie, as long as it's the commentary and not the dysentery!

His machine breaking is not good news. This will upset his sleep patterns and make him grumpy (grumpier). The GM's at the upcoming hotels shoudl be warned. The poor Alam Shanti. A place of tranquility is about to tremble for five days/nights.

I guess his Bobness did not read the part where I noted that three sentences would suffice for his critique of Korean Air. Instead, we get a novella detailed down to the nature of the seat bottom.

Poor Karen. Before I got my CPAP, my Former Beloved calimed that I sounded like 24 lawn mowers when sleeping.

Also interesting that Korean would apologize because people have to wait 35 mins for their luggage. 35 mins would be record-setting time for a half-dozen US carriers that I'm familiar with.

Bob.... just saw your comment about Brad delivering beers to the red shirts... tsk tsk tsk... (He's on his way home to ORD right now... left just before things got hot, thank goodness) It's probably good you aren't on your way to BKK right now. But things should be OK (fingers crossed) by Oct!

Hey, I do hope you get your CPAP repaired!

Take care.

Bob and Karen, I didn't get a chance to wish you a great trip prior to your departure but even though I'm a little late, HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!! I see you're not going to BKK on this trip, probably a good thing considering everything that is going on.

thanks for the continued good wishes... i feel fine this AM, but being at the fabulous alam shanti has something to do with that...

we arrived right on time, maybe a bit early...driver was waiting for us... 1 hour drive, even at night to ubud...

we slept in andy's former bed last nite and i am pleased to report that after 2 years the wet bed has finally dried. this is what happens when you forget your depends supply or is it pampers...

full report to follow, i need to join karen in the pool---150 feet from my window...

did i say korean is the best.... they have a desk at the hyatt in incheon for baggage check (we decided not to use) and full checkin. we did check-in and the lovely woamn decided to upgrade us to the business class cabin for the 7 hour flight...i'll take it... a real perk of staying at that hyatt i think.

more later.

Sounds like the CPAP withdrawal symptoms are kickin' in with a Panda incontinence jibe - His Bobness needs a substitute soonest or Karen might resort to the world-traveller jeglag solution of separate rooms!

A Bali carved clothes-peg and half a mango might do the trick!

But seriously, happy holidays!

so as i said korean has a large desk in the end of the hyatt lobby---this is the hotel that korean uses to put people up at who have layovers--- they may even own the hotel...??

you can check in there and get boarding passes and check in your luggage for delivery to the airport (hello security???).. in any case its a great benefit...

the lovely lady said, 'i am reassigning your seats to the business section because you are way back at row 39..' fine...without asking she also redirected our special seafood meals..

loading onto the plane was a sort of free for all but we were at the head of the line nearly... 2X2X2 in our section with huge padded seats but not extra width in the seats and solid non-moving arms...lift up screens with much less options than the long haul flight... but this was only a 7 hour flight--- airbus 330..

arrived at bali right on time....long taxi... good news is they no longer take your picture or finger print you---that only lasted a couple of weeks, but the bad news is that the lines move slowly....we were 4th in line and the first group--family of 4-- took about 1/2 hour... the rest moved quickly...you still need to pay your fee first-- $25 in US currency--- then head to the main immigration line..

all bags were off the belt and waiting for you.... boys were insisting on helping but we brushed them aside, like you would to cambridge hoodlums....

customs was a walk through....

our driver ketut (4th son) was waiting for us... the drive was about an hour to ubud even without traffic at midnight...lots of light flashing--i had forgotten..

two men were awaiting our arrival at the hotel and moved us quickly into our rooms called Yamuna... we still prefer the room upstairs called gangga, but it was not available---rooms are basically the same but view from porch is better up one flight..

note to andy and beth--- no plowing and animals this year, only tall rice--- very green... new pool is located past our pool over the hedge we are told... did not look yet..

crash came quickly... bed is hard but huge--a large king-- but very comfortable... up about 8:30-- 6 hours sleep..

ordered breakfast which was delivered quickly to our large porch. juice, breads, jams, honey, veggie omelette, fruit plate, coconut/honey crepe, tea and coffee--perfect

read for a while... took shower and then out to the pool until after noon.... the pool is now a private pool just for the two larger rooms which is lovely... our upstairs neighbors the aussie heavy-foots were already in the pool. a nice couple... they left just before noon, moving on... another aussie couple with 2 pre-teen kids arrived later.

we ordered a pizza to be delivered to our room and we ate on our porch again... just right... karen peeled a mango for our dessert.... she had already eaten some mangosteens from our fruit basket...

K went back to the pool, i did some internet and then continued to read my book in the a/c room... with frequent glances outside at the greenery and pool...

the hotel has added free wi-fi..

soon we will take the van--on demand-- into town to look around a bit and have some dinner-- Terazo calls to us i think. just called for van-- 15 min...

To whom do I report a room theft? The panda plaque for my stya will have to be removed. Bob means last son. Who would have any more children after giving birth to him? No one.

My guess is that the other passengers in economy got together, took up a collection and had Bob moved up a class, so they wouldn't have to suffer with him for seven hours. Either that or he managed to speak with a general manager somewhere along the line complaining about some minor detail. The ways of the POB are sneaky.

The non-plowing is peculiar. We were ther at exactly this time of year two years ago. Why would the growth cycle of rice change? Did they have a hard/soft winter? Unlikely.

we ordered a pizza to be delivered to our room

Is this not the same person who sniff-sniffed when another traveler had an Italian meal in Shanghai?

Rizutto-exactly. Apparently, he has descended from his high horse. Domino's must have been giggling. I can picture the Balinese cook, covered in flour, tossing the pizza in the air.

Now, now, boys, let Bob finish his trip and his report....I'm sure each of you will have time for reprisals, insults and admonishments later.

However for the record, this is the quote that got to me:
but this was only a 7 hour flight

Only a 7 hour flight???? My mom gave birth to me in substantially less than 7 hours. An hour-long flight is short, a 2-hour long flight is short, a 7-hour long flight is not a short flight! And this, coming from a guy who spend what, 3 days on a bus in South America?????

"...but this was only a 7 hour flight..."
Yep, that's a short one, when compared to the flts across the Pacific! DH and I consider our ORD-ZRH trips to be short ones as well (at about 8-9 hours).

Enjoying your report, B and K.

It usually takes 9 months.

Even though its the same hotel, the same rice fields and the same time of year, Bob tells us the view is different and there is no plowing going on, as has been the case for 100s of years The answer? Obviously, they are at the wrong hotel. Just as someone wound up at the wrong airport in Shanghai, it seems poor Bob is at the wrong hotel. That fits with the upgrade on Korean. The Korean Air agent likely read the wrong name off the manifest and the mistake continued from there. Wrong couple upgraded, and the same couple then taken to the wrong hotel.

On the pizza delivery front, is it the same in Ubud? If the pizza doesn't arrive in 30 minutes it is free?

Have fun, the Vietnamese beef salad at Terrazo was great, even if it isn't a pizza.
