Scott... Our friends are in 3010...

I always ask for a room near this end of the block... My platinum elite status assures me of getting it..

How did you like it here?? If you ever go to bali, fly over to Lombok and stay at qunci villas, they are even nicer and only a hair more expensive.

Btw, we are only paying 2880 B here... I keep watching the prices as they change during the year.

Peter, very happy that you and Linda had such a good time! Not sure my own travel style would mix well with Bob's.

Belvedere seems to be missing from your list, but it is a very good list... Hope to replicate it in the future..

Oh, what about rubies?? SJ is too broad a topic..

The little night market had a smattering of thai crafts... I think pat bought a shawl and kathleen pearl earrings...us nothing..

We had drinks in the lobby bar. While there Alex, the manager of rooms stopped by to say hello. We told him where we were going for an Italian dinner and he suggested we substitute Amici instead. It is directly in front of monochrome resort, 67/238 Moo 5 kukkak takuapa... The same area in town where the green pepper restaurant is located but on a side street which is directly opposite Pinnocchio Restaurant. He made a res for us for 7. When he came back he said be in the lobby at 6:45 and a resort car will drive us and pick us up at 9. FANTASTIC. BTW, this is the same Alex who we befriended at marriott sukhumvit park in BKK. Very nice German guy.
The restaurant is open aire, new and inviting... We are going back tonight... Kathleen and I both had Alex's suggested dish-- ravioli with Gorgonzola sauce filled with spinach... OMG, it was fantastic, rich tasting and the most delicate pasta ever... So fresh!!! The girls shared a bruschetta as an app, which was yummy... K and P both had pastas, one with sea food and one with roasted eggplant. K had a trio of creme brûlée (ginger, vanilla, and lemongrass); I had a rich flower less chocolate cake which sent my sugar level into the thousands, P had nothing, and K had nothing, although both had wanted ice creams which they were out of.

A real good find... Thanks Alex. Prices were reasonable.

Today is another day starting with a huge breakfast after time spent on our decks listening to the morning birds and watching the water flow by our rooms in the 3.1 kilometers of lagoon.

Girls are at the big pool with some lunch at the pool bar... I am fasting for a big dinner tonight.

Returned to amici again tonight and had an even better meal... Got to talk to the chef too. 90% of his food is imported directly from Italy... Amazing..

So we left the JW and headed south back to Phuket island... K&B will have 2 nights at the Renaissance Phuket, K&P only 1. The drive takes about an hour 1/4. We were upgraded again this year, not to a pool villa, but to a HUGE 5 room suite overlooking the pool. P&K had an adjacent deluxe room with a direct door to our living room. Bliss...

the girls all swam in the PM in the pool.

we went over to the mini mall next to the JW Marriott Phuket and had some supper at the coffee club in Turtle Village-- the beach here is a turtle breeding ground and is protected.

The girls a wake up call for their 10:30 flt to chiang Mai on air Asia. they arranged for a taxi the night before--500B.

Believe it or not I was up at 6 this AM, sat on our quiet balcony for a while and then went for a swim... K joined me.. We were alone..

Mid morning we drove into "town"--- further south into Phuket. I can honestly say that it is no better now, and probably worse, than when we last visited 6 months after the tsamuni. Why anyone even considers a visit to Phuket is beyond me... Except the northern part of the island, north of the airport. It is over crowded, over populated, sleepy, run down, dirty, polluted, over-sexed, over built, etc. etc.

K had to agree with me when I brought it up on our way back to the hotel.. She was the one who had wanted to take the drive.

Tomorrow, we will head back to Bangkok for one night at the Hyatt, before moving on for about 5 nights to the Renaissance on Plenochit. We are hoping for a better experience over last year's.. I'll let you and trip advisor know.

It seems like a year ago we met up with P&L in Bali...

We will have a car when we go to Phuket and stay at Phuket Beach Club. I'm anxious to go back down to Kata Beach area. Hopefully it isn't as dismal as you describe. Katathani and Mom Tri's were looking great in 2006, after the tsunami. Patong, for me, has been the crowded dirty beach to avoid.

How much time in Bangkok before heading home?

Lat has never been to Phuket other than the PBC so we want to show her all around the island. I know it's a long drive, but we'll take a day just to explore.

I am always curious about the Ren Phloenchit. Have K post pics on FB if she can, of your room.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation. Where to next?

Bob, be interested to see if the Ren have down anything with that huge outside terrace the overlooks the car park....I was disappointed with a lack of outside space at the Ren. I enjoyed their breakfast though.

D and I have been discussing plans for your visit, we are really looking forward to it I' ll send you an email with ideas.....

Thanks Nicky.. Just hanging out would be fine with us, unless you want to treat us to lunch or dinner at quatre saisons?
