Refunds

I am one of those people who did not make the thailand/vietnam/cambodia trip becuase of troubles in BKK in December.

After spending several hours I have been able to obtain refunds from American airlines/Vietnam airlines/Air Asia and all the Hotels I had booked months ahead. Of course I lost some 300 dollars in visa and cancellation fees.

The one airline that has not been responsive is Bangkok Air. I have spoken to them twice (cannot help me because I made booking online) emailed them twice (acknowledged by them but no follow up response).

Do fodorites have any idea how to deal with them?

Thanks for all the great help we received in planning our trip. We intend to do it this december.

You may have an easier time with them if you tell them you want to reschedule your flights for December rather than asking for a refund.

I didn't know that Bangkok Air had an office here in California. Where? Happy Travels!

I had to cancel & get refunds from Bangkok air a few years ago when we couldn't travel because of sudden illness. If I remember correctly I requested a refund on line & received it very quickly back on my credit card. There was a cancellation fee but it was very small. So don't loose hope yet.

I was in the same boat as OP-had $828 in Discovery Airpass flights that never got used. I requested a refund from BA when I got home, they emailed me that they would process the credit on the CC used for the tickets. After a month, no credit. So I disputed with Am Ex and they gave me the $828 credit and will hash it out with BA.

I also had my claim of $1200 in other expenses denied by AIG Travelguard insurance. They said because it was in their definition civil unrest, and not terrorism, in Bangkok we were not covered. But we weren't in BKK-we were stuck in Phuket.

Bangkok Airways customer service stinks for them not processing legitimate credits in a timely fashion.

Note that if you purchased your tickets online apparently you need to request the refund online. Try that, as the call center and the internet site are separate.

After months of silence,I found my credit card has been reimbursed for the canceled tickets on Bangkok Airways.. My trip booking and cancellations are complete about a year after I planned the whole thing except that there was no trip!.

Now I was going to start all over again for a trip in December 2009 but the red shirts are at it! What should I do?

Thanks for everyone's help

Glad you got your refunds. I'm sure it took a lot of work to get it all done.

Frankly, I would not worry about the redshirts. DS is in BKK right now, and he says things are just like normal where he is. (Sukhumvit area)

Our family watched and waited this past December, and were so relieved when the airport re-opened. We made our month-long holiday trip to BKK and it was really lovely. We are hoping to do the same again this year.
