What's reasonable? Besides the biggies, Shangri-la, Oriental, Peninsula, Millenium Hilton, Marriott Resort and Spa...which may or may not be reasonable depending on your definition of reasonable, there is the Ibrik, which is small and riverside. There are also the Menam and the Montien, which are less expensive but not nearly as nice as the biggies.

I stayed in The Royal River Hotel which is on the River, but farther down than the others mentioned. I stayed there 3 different years and found it reasonable in price and a good hotel. Not in comparasion to the Four Seasons, Oriental and others mentioned, but it suited my stay.
There is a free river shuttle that takes you to The shopping center on the river.

Check the prices on the Marriott Resort and Spa. I believe it is always less than the "big 4" (Peninsula, Oriental, Shangri-La, and Royal Orchid Sheraton. Plus, they have a shuttle boat to take you to the hotel from the skytrain station. The Marriott is NOT a high-rise like the others.

i am a devotee of the marriott and find that it is the best all around hotel in bkk for the price...
i have stayed twice at the royal river as part of an airline package...i would never stay there again...it is basic in most ways....the rooms are only ok at best....the boat service shuttle is not run often enough and does not start until 10AM and stops in the afternoon about 5....the breakfast is terrible...it has gone down hill...i last stayed there in june, 2005.
there are some budget hotels near to the river but none i would suggest....the marriott and the new hilton are perhaps your best choices.. follow this by the sheraton..
one other choice, while not right on the river, is nearby is the centre point silom serviced apartments...many fodorites have stayed there and were quite pleased...
a good hotel site is: www.huahin.20m.com
note this site includes tax/service which equals 17.7% and also breakfast which can be as much as $15 per person...
try the marriott....it is an oasis in the middle of chaos....
