I would like to say thank you to whomever it was that suggested Ratt as a private guide in Bangkok. She was wonderful. She has her own car, speaks English and has a wonderful sense of humor. She knows the inside and outside of Bangkok so well. We just told her what we'd like to buy or see, and she knew all the best places to do these things.
I must say I was wary a bit, because I didn't know the person in this forum who suggested her. One of those things that turned out more than Okay. This posting place on Asia is so informative and recieving Ratt's name was the best.

She answers her email promply. We had never met her and only heard about her here on this forum. She really was wonderful. And yes, she will take you outside the city to visit anything you'd like. She even drives people up to Chang Mai and makes stops to visit sites. I can't remember what she charges but it is very resonable. Please check with her. Lyndie, are you the person who posted previously that Ratt didn't show for you, and called your hotel later to say she had been stuck in traffic?

I have also previously posted that Ratt did not turn up to meet us at the airport when we first arrived in Bangkok. She phoned our hotel room the following morning, apologised profusely and said she had got the days mixed up. Although slightly uncertain, we continued to use her for the other trips we had already booked her for, and she was early each time and very helpful. We expect to go back to Bangkok again next year, and will use her again. Next time though, I will take her mobile phone number with me, as she e-mailed it to me before we left but I left it at home!

Hi Kathie-yes I did post previously. I emailed Rat before we left Oz and explained very carefully that we only had 3 days in BKK and if she could not make it on the specific day we requested we needed to know before we left as we would make alternate arrangements. We had arranged for each day to be full of stuff to do and when she let us down it really caused us a lot of angst. A half day was wasted and we missed out on some visits we just couldn't re-schedule. She is very disorganised if she can't call from a mobile in traffic and say don't wait for me. We believe she had another booking and was just trying to palm us off until later. Best of luck in 2004.

If you have not already left for the airport, then you may find this information useful.

Ratt will not have access to email until January 10th. While this does not explain why your initial email was sent back undeliverable, at least you can have one last crack at getting a hold of her.

I'm the original poster who recommended Rat after using her services in Feb last year. I'm delighted you had the same good experience with her that I did, and very sorry to hear that a few others on this board did not. I know how frustrating it is to lose even half a day of precious travel time.

After a number of trips throughout Asia during the past 2 years, I have come to the conclusion that you can plan meticulously, do extenisve research, get personal reocmmendations etc. etc.......and stuff can STILL go wrong. Even the most highly recommended hotels/tour guides/restaurants etc. have off days or make mistakes. I have found that the best defense against this is a sense of humor and whenever possible, a good back-up plan.

Wise advice Lindsey. I will try to remember it when I need to. Happy days.
