Hi Jannik,
I was in Tokyo several years ago and August is pretty hot, so I understand your need for beer prices.
I asked a restaurant question and received several great replies for my trip later in the year.
Have a read; as there may be some relevent bits, there were some websites listed there which may help.
Have a look at the posting
"Japanese Restaurants In Shinjuku"Its on the form somewhere close to the top 25.

Have fun

Just a suggestion: Go to site like
www.japan-guide.com/penfriend
Post a message....you might contact someone in Japan that can answer all your questions...I have been communicating with such a person for about a year.....she is in England at this time, but she has been much help to several visitors to Japan.

Bonjour Jannik,

Last time I was in Japan a can of beer was around Yen 400 in a "combini" (convenience store, like Lawson, 7/11) or a vending machine, 400 to 700 in a pub/izakaya. In August, look for "Beer gardens" on top of buildings, for reasonably priced beer and food. You can find inexpensive food in chains like Yoshinoya (a bowl of rice topped with sukiyaki beef starts at Yen 250) or in a "combini". For better food, the choice in cheap eateries is endless.

My favorite places to stay in Tokyo include Asakusa and Yanaka, both full of inexpensive places to stay, eat and drink, both convenient for sightseeing, but less for going out at night if nightclubs is your thing.

A basic site like www.jnto.go.jp will give you an outline of what there is to see and do, and of the prices of things.

Here's a page about eating and drinking in Tokyo http://www.bento.com/tf-rest.html

And of course, my favorite book on Tokyo: "Tokyo for Free", by S. Pompian. As the title says, a myriad things you can see, taste, experience in Tokyo for the price of a subway ticket.
