We flew from chiang mai to samui and then samui to bkk a week or so ago and booked the flights about 6 weeks ahead. All of the flights were totally full and there were people on standby. I would book ahead. We used bangkok air...smaller prop planes, but the flights were good.

Bangkok Air is the only airline that flies to Samui, so you'd best book well in advance.

You can also get better rates if you are booking further in advance. If you are flying anywhere else in Thailand, consider the Discovery Airpass which makes it even cheaper.

If you have not yet booked your London-BKK flights, our Eva Air flights from Trailfinders included a return flight to Ko Samui in the price, although this was booked a few months ago.

Fact is, Thais, despite a low, average daily wage are relatively prosperous and prices in TL are proportional. And, the Thais like to travel.

We flew among our destinations in TL last December and, as a previous poster noted, flights are full. So, booking ahead might be prudent.

Booking 6 months in advance, the return flight that we wanted from KS was already full and we had to pick a different flight.

Definitely book now.
