poste restante

Hello,

I have ordered a couple concert tickets in Japan and they do not want to ship them overseas. I am hoping to use the Poste Restante service in Tokyo's Central Post Office to hold the ticket mailing for me. However, when I call their English phone number, they say I need to be physically there to setup such a service first. I think this act defeats the whole purpose of using that service. Has anyone have any experience using poste restante in Japan?

Thanks,
Baxter

I would suggest that you contact your hotel and ask them to hold the tickets for you. That's what I did and it worked out just fine.

I will stay in the Toyoko chain. I emailed them regarding this issue a while back but heard nothing back. I am not sure if they are willing to do this.

Do you have AMEX? I have had them hold things for me at their offices and Tokyo was one of them. The hotel would be very convienient though.

Does anyone know which AMEX office I can use? Do I need to call them up in advance to setup the service?

I called the US Amex number and the representative has no clue.

Hi Baxter
It has been quite a few years since I used this service but when I did my local AMEX office was able to give me the info. It is entirely possible they don't offer the service anymore so do make sure you confirm it all. Any luck on the hotel front?

Good Luck

Jules,

No such luck with the hotel as they didn't reply to my email. I just called AMEX and the hotel, and people from both places can't speak English.
