Planning for Taiwan - any comments?

Quite a few responses already!
And not without reason. Taiwan is an overlooked destination which is great for those who do venture there,and in my opinion Taiwanese people are the friendliest in the world by far (at 80+ countries it may mean something). Somebody pointed that there are no beaches there, which is not entirely true: Hualien has a a very nice one, about 10 km to the north, reachable by bicycle along the coast, and there are many others as well, including some with decent surf.
I spent 3 weeks last year visiting the country, and if there is one recommendation I would make is that you visit the Taroko Gorge on a scooter, at your own pace. Most scooter rental places will ask for an international drivers license, but eventually you'll find one that doesn't.
