I am trying to book a nice and quiet beach time after Bangkok and Chain Mai. Where should I go? Phi Phi or Samui? Diving is important but big party scene is not...

Hi Jenny,<BR>We went to phi phi on a day trip from Krabi last month,.We were really dissapointed with the main Pee Pee isalnd,very busy ,dirty and smelly,.There are several resorts away from the main bit that look beautiful,palm beach resort.pee pee island village,.The surrounding areas are lovely,clear waters and great scenery,but i would advise you to advoid the main area.Krabi was great,we stayed at Ao Nang ,which was fairly busy,nice resturants,and you could get long tail boats out to the islands,we often had the beach to ourselves,.We are going to Samui next year,.<BR> sue

Phi Phi is very much a let down. The scenary is magnificent but the main 'town' area is an absolute dump.<BR>Koh Samui is not ideal for diving. Try Kao Tao which is just north west of Samui.<BR>Why not try beaches like Cha Am or Hua Hin which are close to Bangkok. You can then get to Bang Sappan a couple of hours by road or train for snorkeling and then take a boat out to Kao Tao<BR><BR>Try http://www.sawadee.com and do a search for: Hua Hin, Bang Saphan, Chumphon and Kao Tao.

Phi Phi island village is wonderful. Completely secluded....far away from the other "nasty" hotels in the area.Private,quiet,good food,service and the diving was wonderful. check it out.

Ko Tao is good for diving. You might want to check out a hotel called 'Tong Sai Bay' in Samui. Excellent "outdoor" room concept. Beach isnt excellent but i think the room more than makes up for it...something to think about!
