Haven't stayed there before. It's near my office in Marunouchi when I was on assignment in 2005.

It's more of a business hotel. It overlooks the Imperial Palace grounds.

Located at the end of Marunouchi which is a business area. Pretty quiet in the evenings and weekends. It's a short walk to the Otemachi subway station. Slightly further away is Tokyo station.

I stayed there in April 2005.

Positives: Room was clean, well-kept, with cute and cozy twin beds (a friend and I shared a room), very close to Otemachi metro, which has many lines branching off from it, so convenient to travel to other parts of Tokyo.

Negatives: My friend was on business and had enormous trouble connecting to the internet. The surrounding neighborhood doesn't offer a lot in the way of cozy, homey izukaya or other home-grown restaurants. In fact, it seemed like more of a business office-mid-town type area. No convenience stores, except for in the Metro (and those closed quite early). Seemed a bit expensive for what it is.

The upshot: I wouldn't stay there again, but only because I've since visited Tokyo three times and know that I prefer the Ebisu/Nakameguro area. (The westin rocks!)

Hope this is helpful!

I stayed at the Palace hotel in November 2006, and enjoyed it. The hotel is walking distance from Tokyo station, so you are able to connect to trains throughout Japan and the subway system. I cannot say enough about the level of service. You are personally greeted as you enter the hotel. The concierges were wonderful, even helping to arrange an appointment at a Ginza hairdresser prior to a business meeting. It is true that the hotel is in the business area, but if you upgrade to palace garden-view room, (check the website for good rates) you have the luxury of looking over greenery in urban Tokyo. The room itself was quite nice. I splurged on breakfast at the Swan, and highly recommend it. It is not only a beautiful room, but there is lots of food, and it is a great spot for people watching.

I stayed there a few years ago and thought it was an excellent hotel. Lovely big windows, warm rooms and comfortable. The Manager greeted us on arrival which was much appreciated as it was our first trip to Japan. On the positive side, it is an easy walk to the main Tokyo station which means you can walk there through pleasant gardens for part of the way and not have to wait for other transport. We had a Train Pass and saw quite a lot of Japan in a week. (Check prices because we had the 2nd class which was more flexible than the cheaper tickets).
A walk around the Palace gardens is also recommended (if you have time!!).
Pat.
