Oksana Reappears

I'm reading "Child 44" and in the first chapter, the mother of the children is named Oksana. This may be as close as we get to hearing from her.

In Japanese, Okaasan means 'mother'.

Really, Lori? I need to see this first-hand. Any links to a post of this TallCroatian's on TA?

Within 24 hours an AO post will be right behind a TC post, reiterating TC's comments.

Her (their) posts are perfectly valid and often even helpful, especially to her guide/friend in Siem Reap; I'm not criticizing the posts, just finding it humorous.

Excellent catch, offwego!!

The sentence structure is the same, even to the point of constantly using '&' and CAPS.

I'd actually sent mail to dear AO last week, after she'd complained about a post I'd made on TA. She was trying to use another foreign phrase, this time 'In memoriam,' and she'd misspelled it as badly as she'd done w/her unfortunate attempt at foie gras.

No reply to my e-mail yet.

Looks like AO is up to her old antics...why won't she come back here? We miss her so much!
Apparently she's handicapped again (last time she was confronted with the whole wheelchair shenanigans on here, she told us all that she never said handicapped--I can't keep up!)
I found it just a bit ironic that she was defending that guide in Cambodia...speaking of how guides need compassion and not typical tourist ignorance. Just a wee bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

Looks like TA caught on to her two user names...all of her posts as TallCroatian have been deleted.

Yeah, I searched for them but they were all deleted. Just the name is left..."in memoriam."

Perhaps the good folks at TA had a bit of help in making the discovery, along with a suggestion of how to verify that OA/TC were one and the same.

<wink>

Don't you think all of this has gone far enough? Could we get back to travel and asia? And let's remember that there are always new people joing this list. Let's not show them the worst side of us or make them think they have to be "in the clique" or they will be ridiculed. It was legiitmate to argue and disagree with specific posts. Now I think this is just getting nasty and mean spirited -- seems like we should take a more "asian" perspective.

OK, but first could we have a contest with the winner being the first one to "find" AO, either here or on another site?

gloria--relax a bit. there's nothing mean about giggling about the sheer absurdity of all of it--we're just having fun, which I think we're allowed to do? it's rare to have such a spectacle happen on our small little board here.

if you truly want to see the nasty side of people, you should check out the CA same-sex marriage thread in the Fodors Lounge. thank god there's still a separation (mostly) of travel on politics on our forum here.

there's plenty of 'in-jokes' on this board. i think you'd be looking at erasing a lot more threads than just this to get rid of that.

ek, I think you're on to something there--it's like 'Where's Waldo'!

Jed-basically, this thread is a follow-up to a travel report written by AskOksana about her time in Thailand and Cambodia. There were several controvesial aspects to this report and the Op took offense at some replies and discontinued her report.

Thankfully, I stayed mostly removed from the fray, but I did observe with childish delight. You can do the same by going back and looking.
