Okajo, doko desu ka?

gojapan.about.com says there are 2500 cherry trees near Okajo, Takeda city, Saga.

But when I searched for Okajo, I found that there is a 12th century Okajo in Taketa city (Bungo Taketa) in Oita ken. Didn't see a mention of cherry trees.

Do you know if Taketa, Oita is the place with 2500 cherry trees?

btw, what does "oka" mean?

Good luck w/this. I have that part of go-japan printed out and see it there, but it just doesn't seem to come up anywhere else, does it.
I have actually emailed the "guide" for particular pages on go-japan to ask questions and have gotten replies. On that page you have on gojapan, click on her name, Shizoku Mishima at the top, and you'll see that you can send her an email at "[email protected]" and see if she can tell you, since she was involved in writing it...that's what I woudl try unless someone comes to the rescue here.

mrwunrfl, I think you have the right Okajo. This link http://www.yokanavi.com/kyushu2/eg/d...urokuno=900010 mentions both the Okajo Cherry Blossom Festival, and Oita, so they must be related.

thanks emd, I hadn't even thought about e-mailing her.

ozgal, thanks, that nailed it. Your link leads to:
http://www.we-love-oita.or.jp/kankou..._6/eevent.html
which mentions the 2500 trees at the Okajo CBF.

Great, you got good info.
Yes, I've found that Japanese information people really do anser their emails! They are so helpful. I have been emailing w/a fella from the Tokyo Metropolitan Govt. Office tourist division in Shinjuku, he has sent me materials 3 times and translated info for me from Japanese sites, etc. My son and I are going to Shinjuku and taking him a gift at his office.

mrwunrfl,

Okajo park is a very famous hanami spot.
There held a sakura festival every spring.

Oka could mean hill, but it might just be a name.
