Yup, great afternoon with the RHK's. We'll skip dinner tonight. Restaurant has been recommended in the NY Times and elsewhere. Note that it is not Craig and Jeane that are located in the old barn but the restaurant - it's definitely out in the country but totally worth the trip. As always our short time together flew by as there is always so much to talk about - some inspired by this board and some not...

Looking forward to the Boston GTG in October...

Sure, Craig and Jeanne only had to spend three hours with the POB. Let's see how they do over an entire weekend. I'm thinking justifiable homicide.

Plus, did you carefully read the menu? How much food was there? I've had sumptious Thanksgiving meals with less food.

Panda, easy to believe you've experienced Thanksgivings with less food, as you likely consume an entire (large) ricotta pie the day before Thanksgiving!

Craig, in October I must tell you about my student days in Italy, when a classmate of mine consumed a $28 salad.

Oh, yeah, and Go Yankees and Go Tigers..well, honestly I'm just a baseball whore and I honestly don't care who wins...

BC-you don't care who woins? That's heresy. Even low-life Yankee fans know that winning is important. They may be able to remember when they won and they vaguely recall that it was good. By the time the Boston GTG rolls around, the baseball picture will be in focus.

Even I could not eat an entire large Ricotta pie. It's as dense as a black hole. It may have its own gravitational field.

If you are going to persist in being witty, Gpanda - I will steal all your best lines.

Like the Ricotta observation, above.

Dogster, I beseech you, do NOT encourage him.

Panda, funny, I thought your brain might have its own gravitational field, but alas, no luck.

Dogster, you'd have to know, he had this ricotta pie in the back seat of his car where I was seated, and he asked me to hand it to him. I almost got a hernia picking it up. Then he asked me to hand him a box containing a pair of shoes he just bought. Funny, he doesn't resemble Herman Munster, but these must have been "mob shoes" made of cement, because this box was about as heavy as the pie. I better start working on my bicep, tricep and deltoid strength before my next scheduled meeting with the Panda.

And Panda, I don't care who "woins".

ET-the Tigers are the Detroit Tigers. This is the team for whom most people root, who live in GFS Michigan.

Good morning, panda!

Thanks for the explanation!

Aside from the California teams, I know next to nothing about the other baseball teams. Once, in my youth, I fell asleep when my boyfriend took me to a ball game. Needless to say, that was the end of our budding relationship.

If this is the kind of humor that was present during the NY GTG, then Boston in October promises to be a big laugh-in!

Hi, Bob!

Thanks for the invitation!

I've not had much opportunity to reshuffle my schedule around. This summer has been filled with activities and can't believe it's almost August! Where did June and July go?

Maybe by late August, early September my schedule will firm up. Will let you know then definitively!

However, such gems of humor are hard to resist!

Any particular variety of bamboo?

ET-Boston is always fun. There's enough people so that if you want to avoid someone from Needham you can do so easily. This year, he's got us going to a ridiculous lunch in the GFS suburbs on Sat., but dinner on Fri. and Sat. will be back here in civilization.

GP: one lunch and two dinners? Is this another Roman orgy affair? Do we have time between all the eating to go and do a bit of museum-hopping?

Bob: bamboo with razor blades? Hmmm, of the thousands of varieties of bamboo, not sure there is such a variety, but will hunt diligently.

ET-attendance at all of the events is not required, necessary or even recommended for the mentally stable. Bob and I will be at all of them. many people at the LA GTG only attended one event.

There's plenty of time for hopping of all kinds. Boston is lousy with museums.

I'll have my special bamboo taster at the events.

Boston is lousy with museums.

Nor does it have any decent colleges.

One of the area's worst museums, bu that standard, is the Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem, less than a half-hour's drive for the people staying in Burlington.

Some of you know the Peabody-Essex, but for those who don't, it's an incredible jewel. The museum specializes in Asian art (though it covers all world regions), and it always has some superb exhibitions going on. The physical plant itself is modern and a joy, and the location in a pedestrian area of Salem makes for a perfect half-day trip.

Also, perhaps Mr Big City Lawyer could explain how Newton (a city, and my beloved childhood home) is a 'GFS suburb' while Arlington (merely a town, and filled with ne'er-do-wells who used to beat us up at HS hockey games) is classified as 'civilization.'

GP: didn't know you are a bamboo sommelier! What talent!

rizzuto: Thanks for the suggestion of the Peabody-Essex. I might have to do this trip with a rental car, but if not, do you happen to know if there's public transportation to that museum?

Sorry to digress on the NEW YORK thread. Mea culpa!
