New Year 31/12 in Shanghai

I´m spending New Years eve (31/12)in Shanghai but I´m not even sure if it´s celebrated in China?! If so, I`d be very gratful for suggestions on what to do and were to go. I was thinking of a restaurant in some tall building to see the fireworks (if there are any!)

It's celebrated. January 1 is currently a public holiday. I say currently as it's likely they will reorganize the public holidays in 2008.

I'd expect fireworks, especially near the Bund. Fireworks are fairly common in Shanghai even on random days.

Maybe you'd be interested in Cucina on 56th floor of JinMao tower (Pudong side) for the view. Food isn't special, imho. Call and reserve a window seat in advance! Cloud 9 bar is on 89th floor or so and I'd think will have a NYE party. Other Bund options are M on the Bund (has balcony), Laris, New Heights (has balcony), Jean George, Sens & Bund, to name a few. Should be able to find reviews online. My guess is you'll want to make a reservation as they may have something special going on. Bar Rouge (Bund 18 I think) has a balcony and is a hip place to go late evening.

If you tell me what kind of place or event you're interested in I can let you know if I see an ad for what's going on there. Most recent magazines were filled with Thanksgiving dinner specials so maybe in 3 weeks or so they'll advertise NYE events.
