New Air Asia charges

http://travel.asiaone.com/Travel/New...408-58648.html

AirAsia passengers will have to pay for each checked in baggage from April 21.

It will cost them RM5 (S$2.17) to check in the baggage at the airport but just RM3 (S$1.30) if the arrangement is made online.

"The fee will help to defray up to 10% of the fuel cost......Lighter baggage on board means burning less fuel, hence less pollution and a better environment"

Anything over 15kg will be charged as excess baggage in addition to checked-in baggage fee.

According to Fernandes, charging the fee for check-in baggage made more sense than charging everyone an additional fuel surcharge, which was what other airlines were doing.

The no-frills airline does not offer free food. Currently, passengers who book online for food onboard, get a 10% discount and if they want to board first and get to choose their seats, they pay an additional RM20 (S$8.67) online

I Thailand it's just B 30 ( under US$1 ) when booked online or B 50 at the airport. I think they said only for flights booked after 21st April.
I don;t think it will bother many, probably better paying under $1 than them having to increase fares.

When we had bookings on Air Asia, one day we had booked HKT - BKK and then BKK - Chiang Rai, with about 3 hours between. Two weeks before our flights, the BKK - Chiang Rai flight was changed to depart 3 hours earlier, making it impossible for us to use. I called Air Asia in Singapore and got a refund no problem...but it was a refund on the flight that changed. I'm not sure how they would handle a refund based on a flight no longer being needed...but it doesn't hurt to try.

Looking at the insurance info on their website, I'd have to say a refund would be pure luck. It says
"Cancellation Benefits, effective one day after the Certificate is issued until departure time, covers up to the original flight cost due to covered reasons such as illness, injury or death in the immediate family."
