Scroll down a bit on this dynamic link to 08:56UTC, and there's a not very pretty video of the extent of the damage at Bhaktapur...

http://earthquake-report.com/2015/04...april-25-2015/

...and also the video above it, for the hell that awaits relief workers in the 'sticks'.

Seems the damage is proving more widespread than at first thought with more than 75% of buildings in the capital being uninhabitable.

One can only hope that politics and corruption will not hamper the relief and reconstruction efforts too much. My own experiences of working for NGOs (albeit in west Africa, rather than Nepal) a few years ago suggest that this is unlikely.

Quite a few of the still-missing foreigners were supposedly at Langtang, according to LL's last link.

I saw the BBC Langtang video a couple of days ago. Link is here:
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-32585356

LL's last link now has another shocking video of Langtang after the quake. We spent several nights in Langtang village in 1991. I looked at my old photos, a few of which are here:
http://nelsonchenkin.zenfolio.com/p661286838

I had several of those portraits printed and framed, and mailed to the villages. A trekking guide later told me they had safely arrived and were on display in the homes. Wonder if any of those people were still there...

Nice blog entry on Bandipur, thursdayd. Looks like that was pretty hard it also.

Thanks Nelson.

On a positive note, the Nepali Times has an article about how an international group of climbers decided that if they couldn't ascend Everest, they'd clean it up. Very cool, they made me smile.

Another way of offering to help:

Dear Friends:

. While many of you may have already generously contributed to a charity in Nepal already, and there are many great humanitarian efforts underway - I am reaching out, on behalf of the Tenzing Sherpa family, for your kind support towards an efforts to that my family has undertaken - The Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Thame Earthquake Relief: https://www.crowdrise.com/TenzingShe...rthquakeRelief. Thank you!

Since the day the catastrophic earthquake struck Nepal, the real extent of the devastation is beginning to emerge as disaster relief teams finally reach far-flung villages. At last count, there are over seven thousand dead, many more injured and property damage has been immense and total. While we may never know the final count of the dead and the injured, we can all agree that the earthquake has left a trail of destruction that will remain etched in our hearts and minds forever, even though what has been physically destroyed will eventually be rebuilt.

The Tenzing Family has initiated The Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Thame Earthquake Relief: https://www.crowdrise.com/TenzingShe...rthquakeRelief to support our family, friends and the people of Thame and neighboring villages get back on their feet and rebuild their homes and lives. We will work with the local community, reputed NGO's and local experts in Nepal to ensure your contribution makes a direct and lasting impact to those affected.

While our family and friends in Nepal are safe, the tragedy has hit very close to home – the Sherpa village of Thame in the Solo Khumbu region just below Mt. Everest, where Tenzing Norgay Sherpa spent much of his childhood has also been devastated, with over 90% of the houses rendered uninhabitable. Thame also happens to be the ancestral home of our late mother and her family - many of whom live in the region and have completely lost their homes and they currently living in tents. Thankfully no deaths were reported as almost everyone was either away, working in the fields, or outside when the earthquake struck. Jamling Tenzing Norgay, who was also in the Everest region during the earthquake, narrowly escaped.

While the immediate and basic needs of food, temporary tented shelter and clothing are reaching Thame from nearby Sherpa villages not as badly affected, substantial external support is required to sustain the community in the coming months and the difficult task of rebuilding homes in the long term. The fact that the trekking and climbing season, the main livelihood for most of the residents of Thame, has ground to a halt, will render rebuilding efforts virtually impossible without external support.

Yes, centered just 50 miles from KTM. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/13/wo...=top-news&_r=0

Sadly, more destruction for this beleaguered country.
