Visiting Brocken Mtn. April 30

I will staying in Goslar late April.
Has anyone experienced Walpurgisnacht (April 30th) in this area? Your impression?
What about Brocken itself?
We were thinking of hiking UP from Torfhaus (8.8 km, via der Goetheweg), then taking the Brockenbahn DOWN to Schierke or Wernigerode.
However, the planning is getting complicated and a little costlier (both in terms of time and money) than expected, especially if the target is underwhelming anyway!

I have ridden Harzbahn twice, once in summer and winter. I like trains as that was my primary reason for riding. However, it is a wonderful, relaxing trip. Have not hiked it but the scenery is wonderful. I would not hesitate to go again.

Thanks, I appreciate the input!
I am wondering what sort of spectacle is put on for Witches night on April 30...foods and drink booths, musical entertainment, little shows?
I understand that people dress up as witches and demons, but I am thinking it won't be 'worth' fighting the crowds on the train ON THAT DATE anyway.
Anyone else with experience of Brocken OR Walpurgisnacht?
