Need Thailand Suggestions...Fast!
Hey Everyone,
My wife and I are sneaking off to Thailand for about 12 days in mid February. We have been all over Asia but have never been to Thailand. Due to airfare prices, I believe we are planning on flying into Phuket.
From what I have read on the forums, Phuket sounds great but rather commercial. We would probably like to get out of Phuket and go somewhere a little more remote. We aren't looking to rough it, but we don't want to be in party central.
Does anyone have suggestions for areas around Phuket that would be good for relaxing on a quiet beach, good for snorkeling and good for food/cooking classes? We would be willing to fly if it gets us to an awesome place. Also, hotel recommendations for the locations would be excellent. We would like to keep prices under $200/night if possible.
Thanks for your help in advance!!!

There is a nice beach area (Mai Khao) near Phuket airport. I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel for under $150. Also take a look at Khao Lak area. The JW Marriott is probably beyond your budget, but there are lots of other hotels there. The area is not quite a commercial as the island of Phuket. To get to Khao Lak you fly into Phuket, and then the drive from there is about 1 hr 45 minutes, approx.
