This is just my worse possible nightmare. If I was on this flight there would have been a medical emergency!

@Kathie - it was an international flight, so the rat must have had a passport as well as a ticket. Seems he was flying to not from India, maybe for third time!

Poor old rat! She and her family had obviously learned to negotiate the maze at Dehli airport. Many an experimental psychologist would have been proud of her.

I'm enjoying the humor in this thread, and I'm certainly not a fan of Air India, but a quick search revealed that rats on a plane are surprisingly common. I've been seeing a lot of press about this.

CBS news has an article "Airplanes Littered with Rat Droppings and Bed Bugs", citing rodent problems on Delta Airlines, British Airways, United Airlines and American Airlines.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/airplanes-littered-with-rat-droppings-and-bed-bugs/

And how about a video showing a rat scurrying on a First Class Emirate flight?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmwFDoX4vYo&feature=youtu.be

I just saw another story about a Finnair jet quarantined in China after a mouse was seen onboard.

This has the potential to be much more dangerous than just a health problem. Pilots could lose control and the plane could crash if a rat bit through an aircraft's wiring. And rodents love to chew on wires.

From the CBS news story:

"a hidden camera revealed that an American Airlines aircraft had been overrun with mice that were eating the insulation on all the interior wiring."

Yikes!

And many airports are infested, too.
The article linked below cites these as having the biggest rat infestations in the US:
Chicago O’Hare International, Orlando International, Newark Liberty International, Miami International and Anchorage International.
