Marriott Resort and Spa & Baan Orapin

Hello,

I am staying at these two hotel while in thailand end of Nov-through Dec(thanks to you guys).
I was wondering if you guys has any tips on places to eat or nice places to get a drink?. I am a single women in her early 30's traveling solo. I'd really like to find some casual places where it might be easier to meet people. Im thinking the more formal might be a little lonely. My understanding is there are not may places around the river? I dont mind traveling to get somewhere.
Any other tips on these two hotels?
Thanks, I'll make sure to post my trip report when I get back. Im sure it will be interesting, my friends are laughing already since Im teased about my "sense of direction" or lack there off.

There are lots of interesting places to eat near the river, but not AT the Marriott. Bob does recommend a small Thai place near the Marriott, but I don't know the details.

A few yummy casual places on the other side of the river... Tongue Thai near the Oriental, Harmonique and Gallary Cafe, both near the Sheraton Royal Orchid.

You just might find Sky Bar to be of interest. Not for eating, but for a nice (expensive) drink with a superb view. Sky Bar is at the top of State Tower, which is one of the buildings near the river. You will no doubt see the "golden dome" on the 64th floor from many places in Bangkok. But please dress nicely if you go there. They don't accept the "backpacker" look. If you go out to the small bar with all the pretty pastel lights, I'm sure you will meet some interesting people.

In Chiang Mai near the BO is the Good View and the Riverside (I think those are the names). They are on the same side of the river as BO and they both have nice decks overlooking the river.

We had a very nice meal with several other people that we met and the total cost for a few hours of debauchery was only 500 baht per person.

The Sirocco Restaurant that is attached to the Sky Bar is VERY expensive compared to most placed and the food was ok. Well, to be fair, my boyfriend loved his meal and mine was only so-so.

Definitely try to make to the Sky Bar because the view is stunning and it is nice and cool above the hubbub of the streets with a cool breeze.
