Actually, I'll be in Valley Forge PA that weekend, and will leave for Europe shortly after that. I just didn't think I could do both the LA GTG and the trip to Switzerland and Germany. Pretty hard to justify... Sorry I'll miss LA!

Looks like Nanabee will be attending too! She doesn't post much on the Asia board, but makes up for it on the U.S., Europe, and Lounge forums.
We'll come to all 3 events, Filmwil.

Kathie- I need street names to help you out. As for the Marriott residence, on Pico, if that's the one that I'm thinking of, well, that's not such a great location. But, since you'll have to have a car anyway, it won't matter.
I'd go fot the Sofitel as the Beverly Center is right across the street and the Grove/Farmer's Market right down the street, 5-minute drive and plenty to do and eat. Plus, plenty of restaurants along Beverly.
As for the Courtyard Century City, if I'm right, that's the tiny hotel that's right on Olympic and south of Century City Shopping Center. There could be a noise problem. Happy Travels!

I drive right past the Elan and the Sofitel at least once a week. I think it's a good location and if there are a few of you staying there, some with cars, you can carpool to the various events.
Kathie, taxis in LA are possible, but not plentiful.
I would not stay in Century City as I think it's too far from where all the events will be. The Beverly Hills location is a bit closer.
I'm going to throw another suggestion into the mix. How about staying in downtown?
There is a deal listed on Travelzoo today for the Millennium Biltmore but unfortunately, it's not available for the GTG dates. Still, there's a lot to see in downtown like the Grand Central Library, MOCA, Disney Hall (Frank Gehry designed) and the Grand Central market. Friends recently used Priceline to get the Omni for $95 a night.

I drive by the Courtyard to/from work everyday. For someone without a car, it's not a good location. Yes, you can walk to the Century Plaza Mall, but it's almost half a mile, and you have to cross Olympic (8 lanes at the traffic light there).
And public transportation on Olympic is very spotty, unlike Santa Monica Blvd or Wilshire Blvd.

Thanks for the input everyone. I don't plan to rent a car (Cheryl may have other ideas). I've been in LA on business quite a few times and generally used taxis as needed. It sounds like the Marriots are not well-located for our purposes.
I usually stay downtown in LA, and I'll take a look at options there.
Lcuy, you must have gotten the last of the inexpensive rooms at the Elan - when I check last night the lowest price was $170+
