March `09 LA GTG.. Where are you all staying?

Looking at hotels and just getting TMI with the whole process, as I know nothing about LA neighborhoods other than that they never are as close as they appear on the map!.

Tried the Sofitel, as Bob/Karen & Andy/ Beth snagged great rooms there, but the rates are now about $240 + taxes. ouch. I'll keep trying!

Thinking of the Elan at only $120/night. It seems fairly close to the events and reviews are pretty good.

Where are the rest of you you staying?

Or, any tips from the locals?

Thanks!

I think Bob is now staying at the Playboy mansion so his room at the Sofitel might be available.

Gpanda Feb 11th, 2009 05:02 AM

Please Lcuy take Bob's room at the Sofitel. I fear that he will be too close. What is the opposite of adjoining?

ekscrunchy Feb 11th, 2009 05:16 AM

Oh no, another party invitation that seems to have passed me by! Now I see why people tip their mail carriers!

Kathie Feb 11th, 2009 05:36 AM

Lcuy, we're holding reservations at the Marriott Residence Inn Beverly Hills. No deposit required, so we still have flexibility.

filmwill Feb 11th, 2009 08:09 AM

lucy, the Elan is a great choice--consistently in TA's LA Top 10...and within spitting distance of the Bob/Andy's hotel.

Location couldn't be more central if you tried.

If you can get a great rate there, I'd go for it.

Looking forward to seeing you real soon!

FYI, to the rest of gang, I'll be sending out another update shortly--as I've only gotten confirmation from a handful of the folks that expressed interest in attending.

Filmwil- I'm trying to talk nanabee into coming with me. Is it too late to add her?

filmwill Feb 11th, 2009 09:43 AM

never too late--just let me know and i'll add her to the list. :)

rhkkmk Feb 11th, 2009 09:58 AM

the only spitting will be aimed at gpanda....it should just flow off his fur, unless that all is a "rug"...

people are slow to confirm billy...have patience...maybe a whole new thread might work??

lcuy Feb 11th, 2009 10:13 AM

Yeas, that other one got unmanageable!!

I've just booked a -cancelable- room at the Elan. $116/night AAA rate n their web site.

I'm going to keep looking at the Sofitel, though.

rhkkmk Feb 11th, 2009 10:21 AM

fantastic....we can spit back and forth then

Kathie Feb 11th, 2009 11:14 AM

Filmwill, is the Marriot Residence Inn Beverly Hills in a convenient location for the gtg activities?

filmwill Feb 11th, 2009 12:22 PM

Kathie, it's a hard question to answer, since the activities will be all over LA (Hollywood, Downtown, etc.)

But, yes, it's definitely not far away. Just note that it's on Pico Blvd in Beverly Hills, a few good walking blocks from any sort of stores or restaurants.

It is LA, after all, so walking isn't something we're even familiar with, but should you want that kind of access to shops and whatnot then perhaps you might want to consider a hotel closer to the shopping streets--but I doubt you'll get that price point anywhere else in Beverly Hills proper.

Where Bob and Andy are staying is right across from the Beverly Center (a huge shopping mall) and a few blocks from Robertson Blvd, where there is some great cafes and boutiques.

Thanks for the feedback. That's helpful info.

Kathie and lcuy,

Have you look at the hotels in Century City? When I was living in LA I always put people up there.

The Residence Inn is pretty nondescript and quite a walk to shops and restaurant.

simpsonc510 Feb 11th, 2009 04:04 PM

Brad stayed at a Courtyard in the Century City vicinity recently. He said it was in a good location.

Where will you be carol??;-)

Kathie Feb 11th, 2009 05:11 PM

We're trying to book a hotel where one of us will get points. Cheryl saves Marriott points so we were looking at those options. I know these won't be chic digs. Would the Courtyard Century City/Beverly Hills be a better choice?

Hanuman Feb 11th, 2009 06:16 PM

Kathie it has been years but from memory the Courtyard is quite close to the Century City mall but I would prefer the Hyatt or even the Hilton. For the last few trips we did to LA we always stay at the Beverly Wilshire but we get very, very good rates there. As Filmwill has said, if you're driving then I guess the location is not that important but from my memory a lot of these hotels will charge $20 - 30 for overnight parking but the Courtyard might have free parking?

I better not comment any further as my information are several years old!

Kathie Feb 11th, 2009 06:24 PM

Yes, I'm sure we'd prefer the Hyatt as well. But at 2x to 3x the rate of the Courtyard...

I'm not inclined to drive in LA. We'll likely take the shuttle from the airport and taxis as needed.

I think I'll take a look at the Elan as per lcuy's idea.
