Le Meridien-Khao Lak
I'd be interested in anyone's opinion of this hotel. Are there restaurants near there, i.e., within walking distance?
What is the beach like? How close are the rooms to the beach? How is the pool? Thanks in advance.

Weed through the rate mistake discussion, and you'll find many reports on stays there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=631551
Not much nearby, but a little. We really liked the beach in front of the Merlin Khao Lak, and the Meridien is similar though about 20 minutes drive north. Lots of shells.

There are a number of small restaurants sitting on the beach to the southwest along Pakweeb Beach. One is between the LeMeridien and Similana and there are about three near the Sarojin (300 meters away?). It depends on whe you are going to visit as they often close during low season and you will need to head into town.
I agree with the previous poster this beach is addictive for us beachcombers due to the interesting shells and coral that wash up on the beach overnight.
Lots of good info at:

and try the forum there for very specific answers from people who stayed there recently.

I stayed at this hotel in December last year. We were in Phuket first and then drove up.
Overall, we liked it, but there were some things about it we didn't!
We had an ocean view suite, this had a bedroom and separate sitting room area with a kitchen plus 2 balconies. The room overlooked (just!) the pool area and we could make out the sea in the distance. There are 2 sections to the hotel - rooms for families and on the other side - rooms for couples.
We thought the pool area was fantastic, extremely big with a separate area for children. Lots of sunloungers etc. There is also a completely separate pool attached to the spa, which was always empty whenever we walked past, but looked very nice.
Nice beach, clean, good for walking. The rooms/hotel don't really overlook the beach though.
Alot of the staff don't speak very good English, but we practised some basic thai and we got by. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.
The breakfast buffet was excellent, plenty to choose from with chefs at stations cooking fresh eggs etc. We didn't try the thai restaurant however. We didn't like the "grill" restaurant - we had an absolutely awful lunch there and vowed never to eat there again.
There isn't a proper bar in the main hotel, although most evenings there was a waitress who made up cocktails etc in a small room behind the reception! We did find this a little odd to start with but most evenings it seemed to work! There is a bar down by the beach/pool area but is frequented by hordes of mosquitos!
So, overall we liked it and are returning again in December this year.
Any questions, please ask.
