landmark or marriott
Going to KS and Bangkok in Feb but tour op who has given me a good price couldn't quote me for Marriott[river] just ROYAL O Sheraton which I don't really want. If I can't get Marriott what about Landmark. We are going with friends who stayed at Marriott in Feb and loved it.

as everyone can tell you i am not the one to ask...but...the marriott is fantastic and it has the river which imo is desirable above all else in bkk...the landmark is an older hotel (?1980's) in a prime location on sukhumvit...i find its public rooms dreary and dark, but other fodorites, especially english people, seem to love its rooms and service....both are 4* hotels...
the pool area at marriott is the best in bkk as well as the gardens...
do not stay at the sheraton O unless they are paying you to do so...i know i will hear about this statement from loyal ros "detainees"...

I would definitely stay at the Royal Orchid. I love the location and although I have not stayed there myself I know plenty of people who have and have liked it a lot. Request one of their newly refurbished rooms (unless all of them have been done). I would not suggest the landmark. If you want to read reviews of them go to:

I always stay at the Royal Orchid in the Tower rooms (which include breakfast, evening cocktails and canapes plus free laundry in the price). I find the location ideal, next to the River City shopping Center on one side and a dock for the Chao Praya Express on the other. The only downside to the location for some people is that it is not next to a Sky Train stop. ALso, even Bob will admit that the pool area is beautiful, located in a garden on the grounds of the Portuguese Embassy.

I have stayed at both the Landmark and the Marriott.I loved the Marriott and would return but it is def. a bit away from things. We are returning to the Landmark next Easter. Great hotel. lovely rooms. We did not eat at the hotel as there are too many fabulous restaurants around it. It is next to the Sky train which is very handy. Pool area is lovely, although we did not spend time there( didn't spend any time at the Marriott pool either!)

We spent a week at the Landmark in December and I'm probably going to stay there in August. I loved it.
The price is great in Aug. I'm getting 2 weekend nights in a club room for $107 per night, including one of the best buffet breakfasts I've ever found, evening drinks and appetizers. Its the 2 for 1 deal on their website.
Last time we were in Lifestyle rooms...all organic, very thai and beautiful, lighting in the halls changes during the day to improve your mood. Veiws as far as the haze will let you see. Staff was wonderful, and you are about 50 yards from the skytrain. Lots of great restaurants close by, including the Bed supperclub. At that time (high season)it was $115 per night
I keep trying to find something comparable down by the river or elsewhere, but they're all either too inconvenient to the skytrain, too international (vs Thai) or more like $160+ without breakfast.
