Craig,
Give the doorman at the Hyatt the address and most especially the phone number of where your going. Just like in Bangkok have you hotel card with you from the bell or front desk with the Hyatt address in Japanese in case you are lost. Knowledge of a little Japanese and especially the pronunciations are helpful but not critical. The phone number of the place is actually more crucial as the taxi drivers can key this into their gps systems and get you to the front door.....unless like us it is a obscure restaurant in the Gion section at night but even then the taxi driver got out and went door to door asking where the place was until he got us right to the front door. Try that with a taxi in NYC lol.
I was serious about the pronunciation of Vodka.....wodka
Aloha!

Hi Craig (my husband's name too!) . .. 6 of us are cruising from Tokyo to Shanghai Sept/14. I have a couple of ?s. What can we expect weather wise? And. . . .what sites would you recommend visiting in Kyoto? We have reserved a one day tour with a private driver & can submit our own requests. Fushimi Inari Shrine & Kinkaku-ji (Golden) temple look interesting but we don't want to fill the whole day with shrines. Thanks for any suggestions

whitecloud - click on my name and that will bring up my old posts, including my detailed Japan trip report with lots of info on Kyoto. We were there in early November so I can't tell you what to expect weather-wise...
