Kyoto accomodations all booked?

thanks emd, yes I am ready (mentally) to go now.
I meant that I would not be worried about not getting reserved seats on the trains. I know that the N'Ex is all reserved. I just wouldn't worry about not getting a seat. If you were able to make the 17:44 train and it was sold out then you would be near the front of the line for the 18:17 train. And you'd still have the 18:46 train as a backup.
To see that later trip, search for Narita Airport to Shinosaka, departing 18:00 exclude Airline and Nozomi. There's 13 minutes to connect at Shinagawa.

13 min. is way more than enough to connect at Shinagawa from Narita Express to Shinkansen to Kyoto, even with a toddler in tow (assuming you can manage your backpack/very small amt of luggage also, if you haven't sent it ahead from Narita).
You're sanity may be in jeopardy at that point if the child is melting down, but you'll have time to make the connection.

to lcuy sorry for the delay...got house cleaned and recuperating from hand surgery...hope my typing is ok...Kyoto Central Inn was a western room and paid 16,800 yen for two days two persons..which in dollars at the time was $142.35. Made the reserve online w/itravel. The room was decent and it was very convenient. If you want *** then Holiday Inn was just that. Next to an upscale depato and close to bus stops. Rooms big! About 20 minutes by bus from rail...
Kyoto Gardens also nice...clse to a subway sta and staff is nice cost for a western in 05 was 3500 per person.

also forgot Shinagawa station is so much better to maneuver in...the JR employee at Narita suggested that when she booked us to Kyoto....also if you don't want to wait for the first NEX to Tokyo you can get on the earlier commuter--it isn't crowded because it starts at the a/p. It leaves before 7:45am but I can't remember the exact time...there's a sign at the ticket sta. that says if you want to get to Tokyo b4 9am to take the other train. Just show your rail pass! Just that the NEX accomodates travelers more leg room and nice seats.
