Krabi beginning of May -- rainy, trashy and windy beach??

Sorry for the awful title...

We're thinking of visiting Krabi during the first week of May, staying at the Pimalai. However I've heard reports about seasonal winds washing trash up beaches in Thailand at this time of the year. Does anyone know about the situation in Krabi, particularly at beaches near Krabi?

How about rain? We can't go until the beginning of May, and are aware that it's the low season.

Thanks for any thoughts in advance.

It is the rainy season, however the Gulf side of Thailand has dry season May-October so maybe you should check out resorts on the Gulf side of Thailand. Koh Samet/Chang, Cha Am/Hua Hin, Koh Tao/Koh Samui.

Atually thinking a bit more practical, why not book yourself into a place on the Gulf side for say 3 days, you can relax after your flight and then you can check the local weather, If Krabi forecast is ok it's easy then to just go onwards to Krabi, but if the forecast is bad, then stay put or go to another place nearby which is dry, try like the Marriott in Hua Hin or something like that. Travel is easy and cheap. May you shouldn't have any problem at all getting decent accommodation, sounds the best solution to the problem.

We stayed at the Pimalai last year at the end of April. The location is some what remote, and was really muddy when it rained. The beaches were fine. The Pimalai is at least 3 hours by car and boat south of Krabi on the island of Koh Lanta.

It is already heavy rain in Phuket and Krabi area, I would try the Gulf side for dry weather, north from Koh Samui up as far as Hua Hin and Cha Am is dry May-October.
