Kobe beef

Can fodorites recommend a good restaurant for Kobe beef, I will visit the following cities on an upcoming trip to Japan:- Hiroshima, Kyoto (will have a rail pass and could travel to Osaka or Kobe), Kanazawa, Takayama and Tokyo. I would imagine Kyoto, Kobe or Osaka would be the better places to have Kobe beef.

Thanks.

I recommend that you skip the Kobe beef, which is often priced more than it is worth IMO, and instead have Hida beef while in Takayama. I find it more flavorful.

My favorite Kobe beef restaurant in Tokyo is Seryna - Mon Cher Ton Ton. There are a few branches so choose that one that's most convenient for you. Go for the Mon Cher Ton Ton, or their top menu for teppanyaki.

Their website is a bit hard to use but here's the page with the menu selection:

Looks like a nice restaurant. Note that if you don't specifically order Kobe beef menus the beef is not Kobe beef, though still probably Japanrese beef. The Kobe beef selections are very expensive, ¥21,000 per person, must order for two people, for their sets.

I love Misono in Shinjuku, Tokyo for their kobe steak and fantastic views from the 51st floor in the Sumitomo Bldg. There is a Misono in Kyoto that we ate at a few years ago near Shoji Dori right in the heart of the city. Those were the best Kobe steaks we've ever had. Have also had the Hida beef and got to say it is right up there in flavor but not as "buttery" imho. Matsusaka beef is very good too, hearty flavor!

If you are in Kobe there are a few kobe beef restaurants located right around the Sannomiya train station. Look for the plastic meat menus.

Aloha!

Thanks for all the replies. I'll make a note of the restaurant names and addresses and keep this with me when travelling.
