kuranosuke, is Hawaii that BAD now? I haven't been to Hawaii except for a stop-over on my way to the Philippines Still, I'd love to visit Hawaii in the near future just to be in an authentic Pacific Island with an active, lava-spewing volcano.

Lisa, your mother can apply for dual-citizenship. She needs to get her birthcertificate from the Nationsl Statistics Office (NSO), fill up a form, 2 X 2 ID photos, pay $50 (?-may have increased to $75.00 by now) at the Philippine Embassy/Consulate here in the US (near you). She will be sworn in on the same day and she can also get a Philippine passport for a fee. You can google Philippine Embassy or Consulate, read about dual citizenship and the requirements, download the forms/print and fill them up before going to the embassy/consulate nearest you.

Lisa, since your mother is a senior citizen, they may make it easier for her to reacquire her Filipino citizenship. It's a good decision to bring her to the Philippines and be taken cared of by family back there. It's cheaper for you and she'll be much happier with family rather than with strangers in a nursing home here in the USA. Good Luck!!!!

DoubleB, don't miss on Davao. It is a big city but not as chaotic as Manila. Davao is a safer city compared to Manila (actually). When you're in Davao, go to Samal Island which is just a 30 minute ferry ride from Sasa Port/Pier. Those kidnappings etc. happen in the mountains/hinterland of Cotabato, General Santos, Kidapawan, Compostela, Zamboanga etc. which are far from Davao City although they are still in the Island of Mindanao. Of course, wherever you are in the world, it's good to be aware of your surroungdings and to be with people you know. Avoid seedy places when traveling in a 3rd world country.

The place is really awesome. It's good to know you enjoyed your stay in there. I've been there in Bohol and Manila a couple of times and it really is beautiful. Have you tried Bohol's zipline and plunge? It was amazing!

Can anyone comment on the 1 or 2 locations where the snorkeling is as good as in the Malaysian Peninsula (Redang or Prehentian Islands) or Thailand (Simillans, Phi Phi Islands) and the actual affect of coral bleaching in the past 6-12 months. Also, where to stay in 4*+ star resorts that offer snorkel packages and the daily room rate is in the $175-$225 range for a deluxe room with breakfast for 2 adults. We would go there for 6-7 days then to another destination in the region for 5-6 days.Thanks.

Hey, Doug, I'm flying to Cebu from Bangkok/Manila/Cebu late in August for two weeks, using Cebu as my base. There probably will be two of us. What are the highlights to see and do on the island? Are the beaches there anywhere near the quality of Bocay? Like you, I try to educate myself by reading travel guides and forums, rather than to overpay for guided tours. Any advice, not only about what to see, but where to find locals to help, would be most appreciated.
