June in Hong Kong?

Our family of four is thinking of spending a week in HK in June. Due to our daughter's school we can not go anywhere in the school year. Would you go to HK in June if that time was the only possibility? Or the weather is unbearable?
If we go, how long is enough? Is one week too long or too short? We are planning to combine this with few days in LA.
We have never travelled long distance on coach, it seems like this time we have to. Does Cathay Pacific have enough room leg and comfort for a trip this long in coach class?
Thank you.

It's really to tell you if one week is too long or too short. Depends on what interest you. For example, some people say 4-5 days is enough for Beijing - and I can tell you there are way more important buidlings, museums and temples to see in Beijing than in Hong Kong. Same if you say Paris or London.

On the other hand, if you say you have a week in Hong Kong, then I can definitely tell you enough things to do and places to see you'll never feel bored. Some people spend 2 days shopping alone. And if you think you've run out of things to do, then you can easily go to Macau or China (visa required for the latter) for a day or two.

Coach on Cathay Pacific is okay. One of the best in service and entertainment, but room is about average. Thousands of people fly coach across the Pacific each day, so it's definitely tolerable. But if you don't mind spending a little more time and money, you may want to try EVA's Evergreen Deluxe class via Taipei. Wider seats and more legroom on the LAX-TPE leg; and TPE-HKG is just over an hour.

Whatever way you travel, you'll suffer from jetlag. So don't plan to do too much the first one or two days.

Oh, June is Hong Kong is pretty warm, but it could be worse in August. Expect daytime temperature in the high-70's to mid-80's. Just a few degrees cooler at night. Most modes of transportation are air-conditioned (except trams, Peak Tram and some ferry classes), and in the city plenty of shopping malls. So, it's mostly tolerable.

June is not the best time to visit HK because it is a bit hot and humid. Also, it may have rain or even typhoon occasionally. But the rain/typhoon should come and go pretty fast (usually 1-2 days). THere still a lot of tourists visiting HK during that time. So, it should not scare you from visiting HK. Good Luck.

As noted above, the weather will be hot and humid, but not as bad as the later summer months. Be sure that you stay at a hotel with a pool, most western chain hotels have them, but do make sure. Although I am not a huge fan of the Grand Hyatt and the Renaissance Harbour View
on Hong Kong Island because their location is a bit out of the way, they do share a very nice and large pool deck (with children’s play area and jogging trail) that has some shade, an important consideration. It is a personal decision whether to stay on the Kowloon side for the great views of the Hong Kong Island side for convenience and easy access to the major sights, which are mostly on Hong Kong Island.

IMO a week (7 days) is not too long, esp with kids, as you will need a day off every few days just to sit by a pool and do nothing. 5 days would also work. Get a guidebook and do some reading. Trying to add another place like Beijing or Bangkok with only 7 days would make things quite rushed, IMO. There is also a fun water park (Ocean Park) on Hong Kong Island which would be good for a day off. There is a small zoo on Hong Kong Island. You can also go for dolphin watch boat rides. The big Buddha on Lantau would be a good day trip as well. You can rent mountain bikes and regular bikes in several areas and ride in national parks. It is a bit hot for hiking, but there are some walks like Lugard Road and Bowen Road, which are flat and offer good views, and some excellent more hilly walking trails on Hong Kong Island and in the New Territories that would be great for a morning or day, if it is not too hot. Take a look at http://parks.afcd.gov.hk/newparks/eng/index.htm for info on walks and biking.

You can also go to Macau for a full day or overnight (I prefer the later).
