I live in Okinawa and current reports are that there are 39 dead and 280 injured. Very sad.

According to Asahi.com and Yahoo News, 50 dead so afr and more than 300 injured. Nothing is proved yet but they say it's possible the young driver (23 y.o.)of the train who has been driving since 11 months was speeding more than the limit of 70 km/h at the curve where the accident happened. He stopped the train at the previous station with 8 meters "over-run" which caused 1 minute 30 second-delay so it's possible he was trying to recover the delay.

... and it happened in Amagasaki-shi, Hyogo Prefecture, next to Osaka. Seems like there are 60 dead so far and still increasing unfortunately.

The accident occurred at around 9:20 a.m. near a railway crossing between Amagasaki and Tsukaguchi stations on JR West's Fukuchiyama Line.

A tragic accident which has killed 67 people so far and injured over 400, according to media reports in Australia, today April 26. Japan's worst train disaster in over 40 years. Those of us who are in Japan or have visited Japan or (like me) are about to visit can only feel great sorrow at these awful statistics.

It's very very sad. The pictures are awful. The numbers seem to keep rising. After experiencing the train system there just a few weeks ago, it seems unbelieveable. I read last night that they had not even found/identified the train operator yet.
