Itinerary for Thailand. HELP PLEASE!!!

Going to Bangkok on June 1st from New York spending 4 days in Bangkok and then choosing between Phuket or Kho Samui for 4 days from June 6th to June 10th.
That is in fact the dilemma, Phulet or Kho Samui for 4 days in the beginning of June.
It’s my honeymoon, we’re into exclusive looking clubs, lounges bars and not very physical actives but very active days.
So far I’m booking Thaiair from JFK to BKK and The Peninsulat Bankok hotel in Bangkok.
Please help me plan my itinerary.

How big is your budget? For a fantastic honeymoon, I'd suggest Amanpuri in Phuket which is exclusive, romantic and stunning. It doesn't get better than that but it is gob-smackingly expensive.

for my review.

My budget is almost unlimited but reasonable. If I’m going to Phuket I think I’m also set on booking Amanpuri. But, first of all I don’t want it to be VERY QUITE hotel and second of all I heard something about more rain in Phuket then Koh Samui during that season and also something about Phuket not being fully recovered from the Tsunami.

Actually I just looked at the price again, $920 per night is a little nuts. So, never mind………don’t want to spend THAT MUCH.

You probably don't want to go to Phuket at that time of the year. Take a look at the average June rainfall in Phuket in June at www.weatherbase.com

Take a look at some of the internet booking sites for places to stay on Koh Samui (www.asiahotels.com or www.sawasdee.com, for instance) and see what interests you. There have been a couple of rave reviews of the Sala Samui, which might interest you. The Sala Samui has its own website with great photos - google it.

If you don't mind an average of 8.4 inches of rain in the month, then it isn't that bad.

Contrast that with less than half that amount of rain in Koh Samui or Hua Hin.

Take a look at Mom Tri's Villa Royale overlooking Kata Noi beach. I've got photos posted on cjscollection, if you look on the left side of the page to the "Photo Gallery" link. I think the photos are on the Asia album or else they might be in the "Miscellaneous" album. Villa Royale is most definitley honeymoon quality. I don't know what the prices would be in June. But you should get a great deal. It's quiet, but there is activity very close by. You'll enjoy the special pampering.. and Mom Tri's Kitchen is a restaurant that gets, and deserves, great reviews.

marriott has just converted a nice hotel on koh samui to a rennaissance hotel...you might look at that...

generally samui is much quieter than phuket, but with the weather i think you need to be careful at that time of year....

myself i would just stay in bkk the whole time....the penn is fantastic...its pool is very nice and you can have a cabanna there to yourself if you get up early and secure one...there must be 20 of them...

plenty to do in bkk actually with wonderful clubs and great restaurants....

you might look at the anantara hotel at either samui or up north in chiang rai area (chaing saen---golden triangle)....

hyatt in hua hin is a nice resort a two hour drive from bkk...

the jw marriott on phuket is nice also, but issolated

not bad the last two years....we found that it clouded up by noon each day which was good as it kept the heat down...sometimes there was a shower in the late afternoon and once or twice a huge storm around dinner time...only once did that disturb our plans....and that day it was a compelete washout figuretively....

we went two years in a row in may/june....we will return to november this year however....bkk is less croweded with tourists....easy to get tables at restaurants without reservations, etc....prices of hotels are cheaper as well...we liked this time of year...we found that we hit the pool right after breakfast for an hour or less and then were off on our day's touring...

it is of course still very hot and humid but we did not find it much different from the nov/dec time frame

We are going to be on our Honeymoon during that exact same time. We opted for Koh Samui over Phuket because of the weather issues that could arise on Phuket. Why bother risking bad weather? We felt picking Koh Samui gave us at least a better chance of having sun-filled days.

After looking at, I swear, EVERY nice hotel on Koh Samui, we settled on the Sala Samui b/c of the private pools. Very exclusive looking place. It might be a little too quiet for what you are looking for, though. It is a quieter beach, but not too far (5-10 minutes by taxi) from all the action.

We are starting on the beach and relaxing, then going to Chiang Mai for a little more action, and then ending in Bangkok when we will most want to be busy. After a wedding, I think relaxing at first is a huge priority, at least for us. So, if you end up on Samui on June 6, that is when we get there!

June is rainy/monsoon time in Phuket area, if you want a busy lively island then Samui would suit, lots of lively bars/clubs/disco pubs and clubs in Chaweng.

The Sala Samui, Sila Evason both good options, the Rennaissance is also good value ( Marriott Rewards ! ) a pool villa in May about US$ 275, poolfront pool villa about $ 390 range.

Zazen Boutique resort at Bophut $ 150 gets you 'best room' beachfront or deluxe garden bungalow, for the price it's great value, if you want something other than the $200 range it pretty much gives all you could want, you certainly don't have to pay the top prices for something really nice, Bophut is quieter but it's only a short trip to Chaweng when you want somewhwere busy/nightlife:

http://www.r24.org/beachsiam.com/samui/zazen/details/

I think the Rennaissance might interest if you want that price range or the Zazeen for something lower priced, but still very nice.

There are plenty of other beaches and islands, depends how 'busy/lively' you want it to be.

Other options apart from Samui would be Koh Chang for an island ( short flight and boat ) or travel by road from Bangkok and then short boat trip, but quite a ong road journey, or places closer to bangkok such as a couple of hours down to Hua Hin area, beaches not as good as Samui or Koh Chang but it has national parks, lots of temples, elephant rides, jungle trips etc in addition to the beach, and the resort areas are more natural Thai as opposed to primarily tourist orientated, lots of top hotels and resorts on the beaches.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to proceed to Samui first for your post-wedding R&R, and then spend time in BKK at the end, when you are well rested. There is a lot more to see in BKK.
