Mark, you can't buy politician in rich countries? Take a good look around washington and you might realise that the problem is global. We are not that high and mighty my friend.

Wayne, what is your point, other than to make an iconoclastic interjection. We all understand what you would convey, it is not your 'insight' to enlighten us.
Mark, you make a very good and correct point. I agree w/ you 100 percent.

My husband and I are living in Honolulu for a year and have been planning a trip to Thailand for his vacation in February. His uncle was going to give us miles so we could fly for free and we have been excitedly planning. Today, his uncle who works in China emailed us and said that the concensus in Asia is that it is too dangerous for people to travel to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Phillipines and so he feels uncomfortable giving us the miles. I could see most of those, but not Thailand! Anyways, we will just have to buy our own tickets, I just needed a forum to complain about the ignorance and over-caution of the unadventurous!

Mark ([email protected])
Wayne - indeed western countries are not immune to corruption. My point is just that corruption is more widespread in SE Asia and it takes very little money to buy weapons, police compliance, etc. I would be surprised (shocked actually) if Indonesia's military or police is not implicated in the Bali bombing. We should all just be careful these days.

I'm chinese Malaysian and this is my opinion: The muslim extremists will not attack their own. Bali is Hindu and therefore not considered "their own". The Kuta clubs had a "foreigners only" policy thereby making it easier for them to target America and its allies.

The Phillipines terrorist attack churches and kidnap foreigners incl Filipino chinese again proving my point.

Hence I think they will not attack muslim Malaysia and Indonesia, or if they do only foriegn interest like embassies and clubs where westerners gather. It may seem odd but it is safer to be amongst the muslims.

To wayne: even America and its "corrupt free" politicians have seen terrorists enter its borders so it is not only confined to poor countries altho the bomb in Bali was indeed bought from the Indonesian army.
