How safe is Delhi/India

I am visiting North India in a few months and I am concerned about safety. Am I just being paranoid? We plan to get a driver. What are some safety tips you all would like to share.

Thank you!

If you have a driver, where do you imagine you'll be that you need safety tips? I've never felt unsafe for a moment in Delhi. Possibly the only tip that was given to me which I'll pass on is watch where you step.

We felt perfectly safe in Delhi with a driver and on our own. A word of caution though - beware of pickpocketers as you would in any large city. My husband was pickpocketed at the lotus temple while he was removing his shoes to be placed in a storage bin.

While we like to explore most cities on our own, castle and king provided is with a wonderful driver for a day and it made getting between sites very easy. We used the metro, taxis and tuk tuks for the other days that we spent there.

Enjoy yourself and don't worry!

In daylight, and with a car and driver, you should be fine. But you might want to read this: http://www.fodors.com/community/asia...ndia-again.cfm

I saw another post you made indicating you are going in Dec. Thats way better.

If you can try to fly in during the day as fog in winter is a problem for flights arriving late.

Good luck! Larry :--)

I would suggest you to be very active and smart during this trip. The place is not that unsafe but you never know who-when and where someone tries to molest you.Have a pepper spray in your handbag and wherever you go don't be alone. But don't worry so much, just be crowded with people and if something happens to you scream. And yes, don't trust someone blindly.
