I want to go to Bangkok in April but I am warned that it is very hot and humid. I don't mind the heat (hell it's 14 degrees in NJ today) but I also don't want to walk arouns like a sweaty American rat.....

I could postpone and go when its cooler, but is it really cooler?

as i said in your other post, it is hot all the year in bkk....what's a few more degrees...it will be cheaper in april as well...you have to do lots of a/c....

do you remember the worst day last summer in NJ...the nite when it was so hot that you just laid there....well that is how it is 24 hours a day, 365 days per year....

April weather will be sauna-hot for you, i guess. Been living and working in Bangkok for over three years, I still need frequent exposure to air con.

Take skytrain and taxi. Avoid mid-day walk - put in your spa plan instead. Go to the temples early or in the late afternoon. Do shopping at Siam or Suanlum Night bazaar at 6-7 pm.

You've probably figured out that it will be very hot and very humid. Don't let it stop you from going. Use the morning for sightseeing, eat lunch at an air conditioned restaurant, brief touring in the afternoon and retire to the pool before a massage. Repeat. Bangkok is extremely welcoming to tourists and our need for cooling off.

It's just plain hot and humid in BKK and no getting away from it while outdoors. Us Easterners were lucky summer-'04 which was relatively mild, maybe two days in the 90s and little humidity - how soon we forget those real "ugly" summers of earlier years. Just think of the very worst ugly HHH weather we've had in NY or NJ and BKK will be worse. But there isn't much that can be done about it.

Arrange for a driver/guide in an a/c vehicles to get you to/from sights, tour early or late afternoons. Find an a/c restaurant, relax at the pool mid-day. Always have water with you, a hat to keep the sun from beating down on you (or an umbrella which many locals use). Despite the discomfort, Thailand, and BKK specifically, are worth visiting.

It is hot, humid and air polluted by mid-afternoon. You need a hat, good pair of walking shoes and a bottle of water. Go out early, take the afternoon off for a nice massage - most hotels have a spa/fitness floor- and then go out early evening again. Most things are open late. The people are warm, kind and very hospitable. Enjoy!

I don't want to beat a dead horse but carrying water with you is essential. Avoid the National Museum (one of the few places in Bangkok with no a/c!). July is a better month to visit as you would not have to adjust as much to the difference in temperature/humidity. Don't be afraid to go in April though if that works best for you. You won't regret it.

I agree with the comments from others above. April is pretty uncomfortable in April but if that is the only time you can go, you will still enjoy it. However it sounds like you can be flexible and if this is so then I would suggest you make it some time between Nov and Feb. It will still be hot but less than April and more importantly less humid. Enjoy your trip when ever you go!

if ya come durring april songkran (water festivals) at least you can partisipate in one of the worlds great parties.
