Hotels in Luang Prabang and Siem Reap
Hi,
My husband and I are going to be in Luang Prabang and Siem Reap in November - many of you have been very helpful about this trip and now we are asking for some suggestions about hotels. Any ideas?
Thanks

We would recommend both hotels we stayed at in SR and LP earlier this year -
Siem Reap - Angkor Holiday Hotel - very reasonable ($65/night for a large room including buffet breakfast) with a pool and close to Bar/Pub street. We were much happier being in town rather than the big hotels on the roads out of SR.
Luang Prabang - The Apsara - I obsessed over the location of the hotel in LP but many of the main hotels are within a very short walk of each other. We chose the Apsara mainly on the basis of price (at $85US/night it was the most reasonable of the group I considered) and were very happy with it - our Superior Upstairs Room (#1) had 15 foot ceilings, on the corner so lots of windows and a small terrace overlooking the river.

In LP, you can readily find clean, safe, small places for under $25 (double) with ac or fan. They are not on the internet, look at Thorn Tree Forum on Lonely Planet. When you hit LP, go to the many restaurents on the main drag and ask tourists for their suggestions.

For under $100 I would second The Aspara. A v. trendy boutique type hotel with great location overlooking the Nam Ou river at the quieter end of LP. The 3 Nagas is my preferred choice but may be just out of your price range. Both hotels have excellent restaurants much better than anything you will find on the main drag.

While the Angkor Holiday Hotel is very good you might also have a look at these others that have had good reviews in general.
