Hotel Recommendations for Thailand

Well, we have our first 3 nights at the Marriott with points. Now we need to find hotels in Chaing Mai, Golden Triangle area, and beaches in the south. (Just in case our timeshare in Phuket doesn't come through.) Our trip will be from December 28 to January 15.
I would really appreciate any suggestions. What should I expect to pay for a clean, Thai atmosphere hotel? I will need 2 rooms/night since we are taking our grown daughters.

bindy, MichaelBKK replied to your first posting of this question. Just click on your name and all of your posts will appear as a list.

I agree with Michael that Baan Orrapin is an excellent and inexpensive choice in Chiang Mai. The Anantara at the Golden Triangle is really lovely, but rather pricey.

And if your timeshare doesn't come through we can help with hotels in the Phuket/Krabi area.

What you have to pay for a clean, Thai atmosphere room varies from location to location. The beach will be the most expensive.

You might want to browse through a hotel booking site. For Thailand, I like www.sawadee.com Most prices include tax and service (a total of 17%) and many include breakfast. Their listings can give you a good idea of prices, and you can look at photos of the places.

Ditto on www.sawadee.com. Used them both trips to Thailand; excellent information; no problems. Happy travels!

The Chedi in Phuket is a fantastic hotel with uber friendly staff. Shares the same beach with the ultra ezpenisive Amanpuri resort.

Pattaya- check out the Royal Cliff Grand and Spa (this one not the others associated with this resort).
We stayed there in January- probably the finest hotel experience we have ever had and we have had many around the world. True 5 star service- could not be better. Also we had a great time in Pattaya and its just a 2 hour drive from BKK!
