I used the Duxton, which was very good. I booked it through www.vienamstay.com and p[aid (if my memory serves me correctly) $70US about 12 months ago. Great breakfast was included in the price.

If you want to go cheaper, Indochine is meant to be very good value, but remember that many of the cheaper Vietnam hotels do not have elevators, so always request a 1st or 2nd floor room.

my first experience was at the Win Hotel in Hanoi, and after checking it had to climb 72 steps!!! I immediately complained over the room phone as I lay exhausted on the bed, explaining that I would have a heart attack if they didn't put me on a lower floor!

I was quickly moved to the 1st floor (18 steps) but had to pay an additional $5! But the Win was an el cheapo place ($30 a night...but very clean).

We stayed at the Hyatt, this past January, and if it is within your budget, highly recommend it.
Expensive by Vietnamese standards, but first rate in every way.
Their breakfast (included) was too good, and their breads, especially their croissants were as good as any in France.
The pool area is delightful, and they pamper you in every way, including a mist spray at your cot to keep you refreshed.
We will be in the north this year, and are considering returning to HCMC just to spend a few days at the hotel.

I can't comment on other hotels, but I throw another vote in favor of Park Hyatt. We were there two weeks ago and were very pleased. No inadequacies at all.
