I need a reasonable hotel in Delhi for 3 days for an extended family of 4 adults and 3 children.

Delhi is huge. Do you need the hotel to be in a particular area?

And you're more likely to get a decent reply if you tell us what constitutes 'reasonable', what time of year, where in Delhi, how much you want to pay, the age of your kids and whether you want one room, two or three rooms, a B & B, a suite... and whether you've been to India before.

Then get ready to faint at the costs.

We will be in Delhi April 3,4 and 5, 2009. Near the airport I think would be best since we will fly in and out within those days. Children are ages 5, 10, 12 and any decent accomodations, b&b, 2 hotel rooms with double beds would be ok.

For a 3 day stay, you don't need to be so close to the airport. Being close to the airport is necessary for those arriving at night and have to be back to the airport the next morning kind of thing.

Since you have time in hand, you can search through other India threads where Delhi hotels are discussed and get recommendations that way - there are several such threads.

If you have nothing else to do except stay put at the hotel (3 days?)near the airport, it may be worth. Other than that airport distance from city center is around 20 kms. I do not think there are hotels in Delhi with rooms big enough to accommodate four people in one. I would suggest you look for tour package deals that include hotel stay. I mostly relied on the services of Smile India Tour.

Delhi B&B is quite lovely and very helpful; however, I think you would need three rooms. (Both of the rooms that I have stayed in there had very comfortable queen beds.) Mr. Pervez is quite helpful in doing your planning, While it's not close to the airport, it is close to a lot of the sightseeing, and the airport ride is about an hour compared to the "close" hotels at about maybe 20 minutes. Three roomos here would be less expensive than two in many hotels, and of course you're really "all together" as a family since it's a private home so the kids in a room wouldn't be unsafe.

Hotel Lemon Tree Udyog Vihar in Gurgaon is much closer to the airport; they will put an extra bed in, but do not have any rooms with two queens. They have comparatively reasonable rates as well.

The Trident, Gurgaon, is gorgeous and does have some rooms with two full beds, but, well, most people wouldn't use "reasonable" in mentioning its rates, except in comparison with perhaps something like the Imperial.

Can you give me a little more info about this trip, as 3 days is short, I assume you are in Delhi for a wedding, business or just a layover. Do you want to sightsee in Delhi or you will be busy with other actives? If the former, then stay at a hotel more in central Delhi, as this will be easier on you than traveling an hour or more each way every day to go to tourist sights. If the latter, where are your meetings/wedding, etc, that would help me recommend hotels. Also, what do you mean by “reasonable”. Delhi is one of the more expensive hotel markets in a pretty expensive hotel market to begin with, so you may have to adjust your expectation of what is “reasonable”. If you mean between US$250-350 per night, you can probably find a good bit available in April (which is low tourist season), but if you mean less than US$100, IMO you will be hard pressed in Delhi to do so for a “decent” hotel.

Secondly, in April it is likely to be very, very hot, in the 90s F generally, and temps over 100 F are not at all unusual. And very strong sun as there is no rain at that time. Therefore, with kids I would <u>strongly</u> recommend a hotel with a pool. B&amp;Bs are unlikely to have a pool, so you may up paying more.

Finally, finding hotel rooms in India (and Asia generally) with 2 double beds will be hard IMO. (And what they call a double bed may actually turn out to be a “full” bed, i.e. slightly larger than a single, I just had this experience at the Shangri-La in KL.) Try the international chains, or a B&amp;B may have a family room (but then no pool). A one or 2 bedroom suite may work well for you too, and may not be any more expensive than 2 hotel rooms.

If you want hotels near the int’l/domestic terminals, try the ones below (all have pools, not surea bout the Park Hotel I can’t swear about a pool there), otherwise if you can give some more specifics as to you itin, I can recco others:

A somewhat cheaper alternative might be the Radissons (there are two, either would work (http://www.radisson.com/). The Grand Hotel is pretty nice (was originally a Hyatt) see http://www.thegrandnewdelhi.com (There is also a Grand Hotel Intercontinental in Connaught Circus in downtown New Delhi, so don't confuse the two.) The Uppals Orchid Hotel is quite nice as well, but rooms can be uneven IMO, for that price I think I would go with the Trident if you can get in (uppalsorchid.com; they may be closed for renovations check the website). From these hotels, you can get into downtown Delhi in about an hour or with good traffic, or you could also stick to places in <i>south</i> Delhi like the Qutab Minar and Haus Khaz Village so you could avoid having to drive all the way into the Conaught or the Old Delhi areas.
