Hotel for 1 night only
I am booking the accommodation for my parents when they come out to Thailand for our wedding. On the way back from Ko Samui, they will have one night in Bangkok only. They will be arriving early afternoon and will leave for the airport the next morning and are unlikely to do much other than use hotel facilities I would have thought.
I have picked out the following hotels as possibles (they will have stayed at the Oriental and Marriott already during this stay):
Banyan Tree (thought they could go to Vertigo for their last meal in Thailand)
Four Seasons
Sukhothai
Peninsula
Interested to hear everyone's views as always and also any other suggestions,
thanks

The FS is best situated for last minute shopping. We also had one of our best meals at its Biscotti Italian restaurant - the soft shell crab salad was amazing.
Since your parents will have already stayed on the river at the Oriental and the Marriot, the Penn is less desirable. That being said, it is an awesome hotel - many say its the best in Bangkok. The restaurants at the Penn are good, but expensive by Thai standards. If they have a favorite at the Oriental, your parents could hop on the Penn shuttle boat which would take them directly to the Oriental pier - they could do that for last minute shopping at OP Place as well.
I personally do not care for the area where the Banyan Tree and the Sukhothai are located so I would not suggest those.

as craig points out the locations of the last two are not great for either the local area or for airport arrivals/departures, but they may change with the new airport....i forget when you will be travelling...
majestic grande is another option to at less money....
four seasons would be very nice, as well as the hyatt next door and i love the conrad as well, all of which are close to each other....
all have shopping on premise or close by and all have excellent facilities and restaurants....all are easy access to airport roadways...
jw marriott is another choice as is sheraton grande....

They've gone for the Peninsula. They get an upgrade there, subject to availability, through Amex and also free massages, breakfast, late checkout - and all at a great price so that made the selection easier for them!
