Hong Kong/Questions
I am planning a trip to Hong Kong for late February. Can anyone recommend a clean, safe hotel in Hong Kong. I am looking to spend around $100us per night or less. Is Hong Kong or Kowloon island better for tourist reasons.
Also what type of ground transportation can I get in HKG to the city/hotels. My flight arrived HKG at 11:00pm....

As a tourist, u should consider staying at Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon) or Causeway Bay (Hong Kong). Convinient for shopping and travelling to most places. With your budget, you should be able to find a decent hotel room.

As of transportation, the Airport Express runs until 12:45am and there are buses 24 hours a day. The Airport Express should be a better choice since you can get into the city in 30 mins. There are fewer buses run at late night though.

Just returned from a holiday trip to Hong Kong. We pricelined all of our hotels there (three different ones) and were very happy with the outcome. We splurged two times and paid $90 once and $95 the other time for the Hong Kong Harbour Plaza (5* Kowloon side) and we paid $55 for the New World Renaissance (HK side). We REALLY liked the Harbour Plaza. Check out this discussion board for more info on bidding: http://pub143.ezboard.com/fpricelineasiadiscussionsfrm20

We took the Airport Express which was very convenient. There were also shuttles from the Express train station to the hotels.

We stayed at the Sheraton in Kowloon for $83 plus tax, booked through Priceline, see above post from Sandra.

We also stayed at the Eaton Hotel for just about $100 in one of the Club Deluxe rooms. Booked that one through www.asiahotels.com. Right now it looks like you can get a smaller room for $64 plus tax and a deluxe for $83 plus tax. The small rooms are reportedly quite small.

The Eaton was a little further up in Kowloon on Nathan Road but it was close to the night market and to the MTR (subway). I actually preferred our room and location at the Eaton but I suspect being Priceline customers we got one of the worst rooms at the Sheraton.

Doesn't really matter which side you stay on, public transportation is cheap and convenient. We spent time on both sides.

We stayed on the Kowloon side and didn't find it to be a problem getting across to HK Island. The Star Ferry is cheap and convienient.

In terms of which side is better, I stayed on Kowloon at the suggestion of friends as they felt, and correctly so, that the view from Kowloon to HK was far prettier than the reverse.

We just returned from spending four nights at the Salisbury YMCA on Kowloon. Many of the hotel rooms face the harbor and have fabulous views, especially on the higher floors. We splurged and got one of the harbor view executive suites, one bedroom apartments with nicely furnished bathrooms. These hotel rooms were renovated several years ago and I'd consider them to be 4 star quality. Location, location, location...next to the Peninsula in Tsim Sha Tsui (great shopping and restaurants), convenient to Star Ferry and MTR stops. Hotel guests can use the whirlpool and pool for free but must pay US$11 per gym visit. No hotel lobby to speak of and we found the concierge staff to be lacking but no complaints for our $195 room with a fabulous view. There are cheaper hotel rooms, especially if you don't need a view. We'll stay there again...
