Hong Kong Hotels
I am very excited that we will be in HK in January for 5 nights. (We are 2 adults.) I started looking for hotels in HK and after recovering from the shock of the prices, I am trying to figure out some possibilities for us. Would love to have a Harbor view if it is within our price range of ~ 2000HK $ ($250US). We could go a biti higher but so far I'm not having alot of luck & prices are more in the 2400HK$ ($300USD) range. The Salisbury doesn't show dates for January. If we cant get a harboview suggestions as to where to stay? Any suggestions from those of you who know HK would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I expect the Salisbury isn't yet taking reservations for January. You might write to them directly and inquire. It's the only reasonably priced place I know of with Harbor View rooms.
Do you have any hotel points? Hog Kong is a great place to use points!

We stayed at the JW Marriott, and the service was top notch. The concierges were all wonderful. On our last day, our flight left at 11 PM, and they let us stay in the room for free until we left for the airport.
We also visited the Peninsula Hotel, and had drinks and watched the colored lights go on from their balcony. It is a beautiful hotel.

I'm also planning to be in Hong Kong in Jan 2017 and have booked my plane ticket and hotel. The prices of the hotels also sent me into shock. I tried to get into the Salisbury "Y", but it was sold out. I ended up in the Mandarin Oriental as there wasn't a lot available. Since I booked the Mandarin Oriental, the price has gone up even more from what I paid.
Good luck.

Kathie -- no, never gotten hotel points. (How's the shoulder?) I did email the Salisbury but havent heard back yet.
CalL - thanks for the suggestions.
Guenmai - are you sure it's sold out? Once you go beyond Dec 2016, it doesnt show any rooms. Hard to believe its sold out for 2017 so far out. I'll post back when I hear from them.
If I'm going to have to pay top dollar, what hotels are recommended?

I was recently in HK and stayed at the Salisbury. I highly suspect that the hotels are just not yet showing their availability for 2017 yet. I recommend to the OP to just keep checking the Salisbury. I liked it (I splurged for a full harbor view room) and the location is great.

I seem to remember having the same trouble with the Salisbury when we were first planning our trip - I emailed them and were told that booking wasn't open yet.
I agree with hpeabody - it's well worth paying for a full harbour view which is a bargain compared to anywhere else offering anything comparable.

1. Salisbury DEFINITELY hasn't opened up bookings for next Jan.
2. Rates and occupancies for HK hotels have been going down significantly this year compared to the last 2-3. Blessing for international travelers visiting. And no hurry to rush to book, as rates may go down even more.

Prove rates are going down: For random weekdays in Jan, the Rhombus Panorama (behind the Sheraton) can be booked for as low as HK$1,400 for harborview, and $1,700 (just over US$200) for high-floor executive club harborview.
So, you are not limited to the Salisbury for a harborview room with your budget.
