Honeymoon beach hotel Thailand in January
Anyone got any tips for an amazing, honeymoon, spa hotel in Southern Thailand. It will be in the middle of Jan so I have been told that the Western side has better weather.
ideally we would like a five star plus place but we cant really afford more that $400 per night ? is this possible ? Is there anywhere we sould be looking to get good deals.

You should certainly be able to find something wonderful in your price range. Take a look at www.sawasdee.com for good prices. The prices on this site include tax an service (which add to 17%) and usually include breakfast (often $20 each).
Also, tell us more about what you are looking for - a lively place with beach bars and restaurants, a quiet place where you could opt to spend all of your time at the resort?
And where else will you be stopping on your trip?

There are many resorts well within $400 per night. Check out Sawadee.com and post the ones that look good to you. We will have recommendations. Phuket, Krabi and Khao Lak are the beaches you want to consider. They have the best weather.
Phuket is a large island, the beaches can differ. If you want to be near the night life, it's in Patong, kata or Karon Beaches. You might look at resorts that are close to one of these.

Gpanda's link is to the same site as my link. It's a booking service lots of us use.
Here's another resource: http://www.phuket.com/hotel/recommen...ic-resorts.htm
Since you want to be somewhere quiet, stay (far) away from Patong, and look for a quiet area if you choose Kata or Karon.
Since you only have a few days, you'll want to choose a place you can fly to, so Phuket or Krabi meet that criteria. Koh Lak and PhiPhi, for instance are harder to get to.
Are you spending any time in Bangkok?

If you want peace and quiet, you might consider Koh Yao in Phang Nga bay. The Evason resort there is at the top end of your price range, but you may be able to get a good price for it.
The other option would be to skip Phuket entirely and go to Krabi instead. The Rayavadee in Railay is very nice, and set amid some very spectacular scenery.

After just getting back (to BKK) from a few days in Krabi last Friday, I will whole heartedly second Michael's idea of Krabi!!! It's really lovely! Phuket and Samui are both on my list of favorite places, but Krabi just jumped up to the top of the list. It is much more natural than the very much tourist oriented Phuket and Samui. Krabi is not an island, but has many many islands that you can visit right off shore.
I did not go ashore at Railay, but I saw it from the water while on a speedboat trip. Looks very peaceful. Just what you might be wanting! You would want to take a longtail boat over to Ao Nang so you could stroll along the waterfront beach road; but the boat ride is a short one from Railay to Ao Nang.
I stayed on Ao Nang at the Ao Nang Princeville Resort. I really enjoyed it, and would go there again, but for your needs, try Railay.

Check all four websites we've given you and contact any hotels you are interested in and ask about special rates. You are going at the highest priced time of the year, so it will be harder to get great rates. Note that the booking sites often have you pay upfront. Read their cancellation policies carefully.
If I remember correctly, the White Sands (shown on the romantic phuket hotels site) was used by one of our regulars who loved it.
