help with hotel in Chaing Mai

Would like best location for walking either old city or along river.
Wherever I can walk out and be in the "hub".
Had a great misadventure attempting to book Yaang Come Village, so this is out.
We booked with an agency that confirmed our reservation, and a week later requested a photocopy of our amex front and back.
Needless to say we refused, and even offered the three digits on back of card, but it was no.
So our reservation was cancelled by them, and the direct website for Yaang Come does not respond to our inquiry.
Please help, as we require the room for mid January.
Price is no object, as you all helped me find the Four Seasons in Bangkok, which Hubbie loved so much that we are returning there for a week right after Chaing Mai.
Thanks in advance
Bev

Are you using www.yaangcome.com and the reservations link there for the e-mail? That's how we booked last December and they answered within an hour...but we are in Japan and there is no time difference. They have [email protected] and [email protected] for e-mail addresses listed.

Alternatives...The Chedi is along the river, and although very different in style to YCV looks very nice. Baan Orapin is reported to be very nice too, only lacks a pool. Manathai might be nice. As much as I'd like to recommend the Four Seasons Chiang Mai to you, it is not the location you want as it is a good 30 minute drive outside the city. Does look to be a lovely resort, though, and gets excellent reviews.

thanks very much.
If I don't hear from YCV by to-morrow I will book the Chedi.
I have a feeling that I will not hear from them as they must think that I cancelled the trails of Indochina booking, and want to see if I can get a better rate, or maybe they don't want to cross this agency.
I did send another e-mail telling them exactly what had occured.
By the way has anyone else on this site ever been asked to photocopy their c.c. by travel agency?

You can check availability for Yaang come thru sawadee without having to make a firm booking or give any credit card details, but if it's available they will hold for 2 or 3 days without any obligation that gives you time to decide, only then do you give credit card details online to them.

http://r24.org/chiang-mai-hotels.itg...mai/yaangcome/

no faxes or anything like that whatsoever, you pay normaly 1 night deposit and balance a couple of weeks before.
Do not the Flower festival makes CM very busy at the moment, I agree with Kim Manathai might be another but it is not nearly as good location as YCV,
you can get the full list on

http://www.r24.org/chiang-mai-hotels...angmai/hotels/

Also thru sawadee but with some ideas on Beachsiam
http://www.beachsiam.com/chiang_mai.html

If you like Spa and don't mind time outside of town Jirung health resort and Spa is another nice place, Kathie is in CM at the moment and also gave some ideas and worth checking her recent report on the flower festival, and also not forgeting Baan orapin if you like smaller more personal place to stay

Thank you all.
I sent a very long detailed message to Yaang Come Village last night.
I explained in detail our problem and the c.c. issue.
This morning (three days later), I received a reply with an apology for the lateness of their response and accepting our reservation.
So thanks all.
Great group of people here!

Glad it worked out. We left YCV this morning and are on our way back to Bangkok. YCV was lovely.
