As for transportation...I posted that information on my original Guenmai's GTG/Part 1 thread...under Nov 06th... If you go to that thread it will answer a lot of questions. I'm not one who takes public transportation since it can't get me where I need to go in time. I have a car. I do know that we have a massive system and I did once take the subway from the Valley to downtown L.A. since a friend wanted to try it. Plus, a couple of European friends visited me a couple of years ago and took the public transportation system from Pasadena...a block from the Courtyard Marriot... to downtown L.A. to Universal Studios and to Hollywood and were fine with figuring it out. They stayed at the Courtyard Marriot. I drove them everywhere else and also drove them to LAX upon their departure. They had a lot of time on their hands though...a week visiting me...to figure it all out.

It would be good to know when the out-of-town folks will arrive and when they plan to leave so that I can put together some things to do. I know Bob and Karen's dates and Simpson 510 has posted hers, too. Happy Travels!

Bob and Guen - thanks for the transportation information. Guen, I'll go back and check the GTG/part1 for more info you may have already given.

I'll have a car. I plan to fly into and out of LAX. I don't yet have my ticket but am planning to arrive on the 3rd and depart on the 8th. This could change as the time draws nearer... (gotta see how mom is doing)

Bob, I'll probably end up renting a car although I have one. I'll rent a big car if we need to carpool around town a bit. Are you getting a rental car? Happy Travels!

We are flying into Burbank- how far is the hotel from Burbank airport?
Also - there is a great deal offered by Hertz. Rent a car and get a free day at the Marriott Courtyard. You need to stay 3 nights with a Saturday night stay, book the hotel with the Hertz code and your third day is free. This is worth $160 at the Pasadena Courtyard.
I have made this deal. My Hertz car rental is only $25/day so it its a good deal overall.

Bill...about 25 minutes depending on traffic. Exit Burbank Airport... Take the 5 freeway south to the 134/Pasadena...east. Drive east out the 134 and and exit at Colorado Blvd/Orange Grove in Pasadena....Drive straight out Colorado Blvd to Fair Oaks...about 3 blocks... and then make a left onto Fair Oaks...north...the direction of the mountains. Go two short blocks and the Marriot is on the right side. Happy Travels!

Craig....I don't have your e-mail address. I have all of the others. Could you either post it or send it to Bob to forward to me if you want me to include it in the "group" e-mail that I plan to send out next week. Happy Travels!

Guen, Jeane and are still up-in-the-air on attending your GTG as we still do not know whether the date of our family obligation is May 5th or May 12th. Please include me on your e-mails for now. Bob has my e-mail address and I will ask him to send it to you.

No problem, Craig. I'm sending out the info also to those who are not 100% sure, yet. It's easier for me...and much more time saving to send info out to folks in "group". So, I'll include you in the "group". Happy Travels!

Hi Guenmai, I'm sad to say it won't happen for me. I am in LA May 19-22.

But if we can have a gtg then, that might be nice! My email is naupaka at hotmail.com

Carol: I can tell you that I will be GTG'ing with iamq in late July/early August in HNL but haven't finalized any details yet. we can still do the late August one as we did last year. Will you be in HNL for sure?

Aloha Carol! Yes we can gtg in prob early Sept.....a little too early to fix date as our football team hasn't set their's yet, lol. Some of us live our lives on the fall according to that schedule, lol.

Melissa.......Naupaka? How unique.
for our mainland readers your Hawaiian lesson for the day.

The Legend of Naupaka

It is said that two lovers, greatly devoted to each other, came to the attention of the Goddess Pele. Pele found the young man desirable and appeared before him as a beautiful stranger. But no matter what Pele did the lovers remained devoted to each other.

Angered, Pele chased the young man into the mountains, throwing molten lava at him. Pele's sisters witnessed this and to save the young man from a certain death they changed him into the mountain Naupaka. Pele immediately went after the young woman and chased her towards the sea - but again Pele's sisters stepped in and changed the young lover into beach Naupaka.

It is said that if the mountain Naupaka and beach Naupaka flowers are reunited, the two young lovers will be together again.

Pele is the goddess of fire in Hawaii and the one who built the islands(volcanoes) fyi

Aloha!

I'm hoping to make it to a GTG in HNL since I missed last year's. If I know far enough in advance, I can make sure I've got the time built into my schedule (but while still making sure my 91-year old mother is taken care of). August, September. "whatever"... let's see how everyone else feels about it.

Exactly it, hawaiiantraveler! Also for those of you who visit Hawaii and see the naupaka plant (it's all over the beaches)--you will see that the flower is a half-flower. that's the "reunion" that hawaiiantraveler refers to....the two flowers make a whole. (Yes, still looking for my other half!)

I think there's a UH/UNLV game in early september?? Someone told me it is in Vegas, but not sure. Stay tuned, Carol!

Also not to hijack Guenmai's thread, but I'm looking at a GTG in LA during that time that I'm there...SeaUrchin will meet me so far. I think she might try to come to yours so I gave her the link to this thread.
