Guangzhou to Hong Kong

Has anyone ever taken the train from Guangzhou to Hong Kong. I am trying to decide between the train and flying. The two cities are so close that it seems silly to fly

Take the direct train from Guangzhou to Hong Kong is only about 2 hrs. It is silly to fly as flights within China can be unreliable. But make sure you book early because train tickets can easily be sold out weeks ahead especially on holiday or during trade conventions.

The train is a better choice. The ride is relatively quick, and you don't have to deal with going to the airport(which is further away in both cities) and check in and such. Just watch out for your wallet/ bag at the train station- as you have to in many places in mainland China!

Our plane got cancelled (which is common) and we got tickets within days of needing them.

We were so glad because it was a great experience. The trains were very nice, they sold food and drinks, it was more relaxing than going through the airport scene and best of all, we got to see the countryside. All we had seen were cities. It was neat getting to see rice fields, small villages and water buffalo.

Be sure to get first class tickets.

the kowloon-canton through train is definitely your best bet. only a couple of hours, comfortable seats, and better yet, gets you into the hunghom station in kowloon. i wouldn't even think about flying...

Thank you so much for your responses. The reason I was considering flying is because I will be flying into the Guangzhou airport continuing on to HK. Based on your comments and what I have read, I think the train would be a fun experience and possibly faster.
