Grand President in Bangkok
Thanks to everyone for their feedback on my previous post re: the other hotel options. Seeing as neither were winners, we're now leaning towards the Grand President Serviced Apartments. I've read overall good reviews on this place, but would appreciate some feedback if I should be concerned about cleanliness and service? How do they compare to hotels? What is the key difference (good and bad)? I'm assuming they have daily cleaning service, but have never stayed at a serviced apartment, so I apologize for my ignorance. Thanks

I've written quite a bit on serviced apartments as have others.I will have a serviced apartment in Bangkok next month (emporiumsuites.com) for a three-week vacation in Bangkok and can't wait.I checked out serviced apartments while there in August. I usually stay in hotels in Bangkok. If you type in the "Search" section "Serviced apartments in Bangkok" then a lot of info will pop up. I just tried it and there was a lot of info. I know of the Grand President, but haven't stayed in it. There's a chain of serviced apartments connected with them. Just make sure you are near a skytrain station. Happy Travels!

the main difference between the two is that hotels provide much more service generally and are usually for shorter stays....serviced apartments in bkk cater to short stays as well, but primarily cater to longer stays...breakfast is provided in many SA...
president is well located and very convieniet...the pool is small but there is one on the roof area...
the furnishings in president are nice but not ornate....cleanliness should not be an issue...
good choice....on the scale of 1 to 10, it probably rates a 6 when you consider all the svc apts in bkk...many are more lux, but also cost double or more...

Just a warning about noise. In late October, adjacent to Tower 3 on one side, construction has began on a new building. The noise is horrible and will probably last for several months. On the other side a noisy bird sanctuary can be annoying to late sleepers. In tower 1 and 2 (right across the street), if your room faces soi 11 it will also be very noisy.

Thanks to everyone for your advice. Have now found a decent price for the Davis Hotel, and am leaning towards that instead. I hear it's not in the best location, but prob a better place than the Grand. Your thoughts??

make sure you tell us about davis after you stay there as it is way under used by fodorites and we need to learn more about it...

grand president serviced apartments (SA)sukumvit soi 11.
this complex has 3 buildings, two facing wach other on a side way just in back of the ambassador hotel and one across soi 11 with a german restaurant on the ground floor. unless you are strapped for cash avoid the topaz studios or anything else in that 3rd building! it is low tourist class.
that gives you the royal or grand suites. i stayed in the suite and it is very well appointed with a livingroom (large desk, sofa, TV, stereo, lots of room) and large bedroom with king bed (lots of closet space, drawers, TV. the bath borders on luxurious. what distinguishes it from a hotel inside it is the kitchen (stove/oven, full refrigerator/ and microwave with a bar like counter with stools. RHK is correct the pool is concrete with little aesthetics (all buildings have a pool)but the location is great.
are you intending to cook? i shouldnt think so. that is what the SA is about. you going to find a relatively western supermarket? no! its good if you buy snacks or soft drinks/beer, or leftovers from a restaurant.
the price has been creeping up w/ tax and service charges.
i think it is still a good deal compared to what you would get at a high end hotel as you plan to be out and about all day and night right?
cleanliness and service is ok. they may not change the sheets every day, but you dont do that at home do you?
check the booking sites for the best deal and dont get buyers remorse. you will be satisfied.
