Because it hasn't happen, it doesn't mean it won't happen. There's nobody that can guarantee your safety. People have been told by several governments not to go to south east asia. If You want to take the risk, then go. No insurance policy now covers for terrorism related injuries or death. The hospital system and the rescue system in Asia are shocking. It took the Vietnamese government 5 hours to pull out a hose for the big fire at the Saigon International Business Centre which currently claim more than 100 lives. Of course, The VietCong wouldn't declare to the whole world that it's related to terrorist act as it would affect the now booming tourist industry.

We are in Thailand now and having a great time. No problems. Have visited Bangkok and Krabi so far and now continuing to the other coast.

We were in Bangkok last week, 10/22-10/27. I felt completely safe at all times and we had a great time. That being said, as the previous poster mentioned, you can never be sure with these random, insane attacks. I have not heard any specific threat about Thailand, I just get the feeling that various countries are trying to cover their behinds in case of an attack. That way, no one can say they didn't warn their citizens. Ultimately, you have to make the decision about how your fears will affect your vacation. Good luck!

I am having the same quandry. My roommate and I leave in two weeks for Thailand and we keep hearing about the threat of attacks. I am torn. I have had many friends say GO you will be fine and others who think we are insane. I am from America and have said that I would base my decision on when and if the american govt. says anything but I fear that not many Americans go to Thailand so they wouldn't be concerned. I do agree that maybe governments are just covering their asses. But I also think that asking if people who are there now feel safe isn't a good question. Of course traveling you will feel safe. There are not terrorist lurking behind every corner. What I am worried about is the sudden bomb that kills 500.

I would really enjoy other people's thoughts and opinions.

Thank you.

How many 'warnings' were there every day in the States, countless. Bomb scares in Britain were a part of everyday life for many years. 9 bombs went off in Soweto in South Africa yesterday, any travel warning? No. Of course anything can happen anywhere, but you are getting on a plane right! I would be more concerned about that than anything else.

Safe from what? I assume you are talking about terrorism. I will illustrate with a simple analogy:
Is it safe to travel to Montreal, Canada (or San Francisco, CA; or Boise, Idaho etc...)since the NYC 9/11 tragedy?
if you answered "yes" the above question, then your answer is "Yes"
Honestly, friend, you will be safe in Thailand. Just avoid being at large gatherings of western tourists. Your risk is very low in Thailand. Another poster noted that Thailand is 95 percent Buddist, a tremendous difference from Indonesia. Enjoy your trip.

I think that you are as safe there as anywhere else. There will be more terrorist attacks, but they can be anywhere and we cannot predict it. But, we are all more likely to die in a car accident than any other way. Life includes risk taking. Every day has its risks. Go. Enjoy, don't worry.

Hi guys!!!!

Thanks for the input. After reading the posts, I decided to go for it!! I'm going to Thailand as planned.
Last year I arrived from Egypt a few days before 9/11/01. I was sad to see what happened, but I had a great time while in Egypt. People thought I was crazy for going then...

I picked Thailand because it is not a Muslim country, but anything can happen anywhere. You guys are correct about that. I just wanted to see what the mood is like there, so I will know what to expect.
We leave in exactly two weeks and I am soo excited!!!!
Thanks again for the opinions!!

Ingrid

Offcourse its safe to go to Thailand, the US instigated this bombing event to get support for their war against Iraq. I know this for a fact since 2 streets from the Bali disco bombing there was a disco full of Americans, so bombing the Australians was just a way to get that country behind the war as well. Australia was against war, now this bomb changed peoples minds. There is no Al Qauda in Thailand, you can rest on both ears.

Enjoy your holiday,

Peter

Everyone from tourist organisation to governments who are asking 'why' and on 'what basis' these warnings were given have just been 'fobbed-off'(not sure how to spell that but you get the drift!). It may seem extreme but you really start to wonder where this so called information comes from. Almost 3 seeks since Bali and no clear proof of who did this, just speculation. It has in my opinion just been totally exagerated and hyped, why, who knows! But I don't see how we can give creedence to this barrage of warnings that no one seems to be able to back up with a single item of evidence or fact.
My wife and I just returned from a two-week honeymoon in Thailand (Koh Samui, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and hilltribe villages) and we felt completely safe. I think the events in Bali only made the Thai increase security, but there was no feeling of apprehension while we were there.

Go and have a wonderful time. We miss it already.

Peter, you are one sick looney. I am willing to believe a lot of bad stuff about the US govt, but I gotta draw the line at them being behind the Bali bombing. If your paranoid theory were true, surely they would have tried to get French or Russian support, not Australian? Those are the 2 countries opposing Bush in the UN Security Council.

Peter.
Great job of baiting! Your tired old mantra lacks imagination tho, and is sadly out of date. If in fact there was indeed a nightclub full of Yanks down the street, that fact simply illustrates who the real targets are. Those bombers didn`t accidentally hit a broad spectrum of western tourists, it was by design. The times they are a-changing....
