Ao Nang seafront was friendly, clean. Do remember than rates double in Southern Thailand for high season, and triple over the busy December period:
Website
http://www.r24.org/huahin.20m.com/krabi/thairesort/

We stayed at the Phi Phi Princess in January 2002. Their Waterfall restaurant has great food.
http://www.ppprincess.com/

We stayed on Railay Beach near Krabi. We rented a house at the Railay Beach Club, but decided to go with a bungalow that has AC and 24 hour electricity this time. We are returning to Railay in February 2003 and will be staying at the Sand and Sea Resort.
http://www.sawadee.com/krabi/sandsea/
http://www.sandsearesort.com/

Check out our Thailand pictures at:
http://kerstentraveler.tripod.com/thailand2002.htm

We have stayed twice at the PP Coral on Laem Tong beach, Ko Phi Phi. Beachfront bungalow about $50 for 2 people, including substantial breakfast. Air con, clean, comfortable, a boat ride away from the port town, great restaurant on site. Wish I were on my way there now...
